SACRAMENTO, Calif., Oct. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Daniel Zingale, Senior Vice President, Healthy California, released the following statement regarding today’s announcement that Governor Jerry Brown signed legislation to protect the right of immigrant motorists to drive legally in California.

“The California Endowment applauds Governor Brown’s signing of AB 60, a bill that will enable millions of people to get to work safely and legally. This bill ensures that an estimated 2.6 million people who lack immigration status are appropriately trained, tested and insured to drive on our roadways. It also affords people the right to lead productive lives by allowing them to drive to work and take their children to school without living in fear.

“Today’s signing builds on previous actions California has taken to build on the rights of immigrants, including legislation that extended drivers licenses to 400,000 participants through President Barack Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. This bill is the latest example of California’s leadership in providing all immigrants basic rights and protections.”
