Washington, DC–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–June 5, 2007–The Hispanic College Fund announces the first annual Manuel Candamo Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament to be held at El Conquistador Golf Resort in Puerto Rico on June 29, 2007. The Manuel Candamo Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the Candamo family to provide financial support to Puerto Rican college and college-bound students. Manuel Candamo was a well-regarded businessman and entrepreneur in Washington, D.C. and in his native Puerto Rico. Manuel lost his battle with cancer in July, 2006 at the age of 46.
“Manuel believed in education and its impact on the individual and the community,” said Idalia P. Fernandez, President, Hispanic College Fund “We are very proud to have been selected by his family to administer the scholarship fund.”
The Manuel Candamo Memorial Scholarship Fund will provide college scholarships to students in Puerto Rico who, like Manuel, are committed to making an enduring contribution to their families and their community.
In addition, the proceeds from the golf tournament will support the Fondo Memorial Manuel Rafael “Felo” Candamo which has been established at the Fundación Comunitaria de Puerto Rico to support mentoring programs for youth and to support families affected by cancer
