United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation to Accept $450k Grant From Wells Fargo Foundation for Education Initiatives

DALLAS, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) Foundation will accept a $450,000 grant today from the Wells Fargo Foundation at the 31st Annual Convention & Business Expo, held in Dallas, Texas, to support education initiatives of the national Hispanic chamber. A press conference will be held at 10:15 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. at the Hilton Anatole, Trinity Ballroom and Expo Hall.

“The USHCC Foundation is continually searching for ways to encourage participation from Hispanic communities in our nations economic development,” said Javier Palomarez, USHCC President and CEO. “This gift from the Wells Fargo Foundation is a true testament to the continued support that the USHCC is receiving from corporations across the country.”

The grant will build on activities started in 2007 by the USHCC Foundation, which supports the goal of helping Hispanic business owners succeed financially. Some of the grant money has been used for educational opportunities hosted through the national USHCC Foundation Chamber Training Institute. As part of this program, all courses are taught by Notre Dame professors and leaders in television media.

A portion of the Wells Fargo Foundation grant will also be used to award a $25,000 scholarship to a student pursuing a Masters in Non-Profit Administration (MNA) at the University of Notre Dame. This years recipient, Jorge Jaramillo, a member of USHCC, will apply the training received through the Masters program to improve the administration of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of San Mateo County, California, which he leads as President/CEO.

This years USHCC National Convention & Business Expo, which opened Wednesday, September 22nd and concluding Saturday, September 25th, has broken previous attendance records and is considered the largest gathering of Hispanic business leaders in the nation. The convention will bring together thousands of Hispanic entrepreneurs, corporate executives, procurement and supplier-diversity professionals from the private and public sectors, as well as Latina leaders and Hispanic Chamber of Commerce leaders from throughout the nation.
