Univision Premieres Weekly Sunday Morning Discussion Program ‘Al Punto’ This Sunday, September 9th

Award-Winning journalist Jorge Ramos to discuss issues of special importance to Hispanics with newsmakers and politicians

Miami, FL–(HISPANIC PR WIRE)–September 5, 2007–Univision will debut “Al Punto” (To the Point), with Noticiero Univision anchor Jorge Ramos, the network’s new one hour Sunday morning program where today’s most prominent politicians and newsmakers will meet to discuss the issues that affect the growing Hispanic community in the United States, on September 9th at 10:00 am ET (9:00 am Pacific).

Among “Al Punto’s” first guests will be RNC Chairman Senator Mel Martinez (R) of Florida and Senator Bob Menendez (D) of New Jersey discussing Univision’s historic Democratic Presidential Forum scheduled to air later that same evening. Also appearing as guests on the debut show to discuss how both national parties relate to specific Hispanic issues will be Representative Luis Gutierrez (D) of Illinois, Representative Xavier Becerra (D) of California, and Representatives Lincoln and Mario Diaz-Balart (R) of Florida.

Featuring one-on-one interviews with world leaders and other well-known people in the news, “Al Punto” will go beyond the 15 second sound-bite and get to the point of the news events and issues that are most relevant to Hispanic viewers. In addition, as we approach an election year in which Hispanics will play a vital role in the nation’s political future, Univision’s Washington D.C. bureau will become a must-stop for every candidate, politician, and policy maker in town.

“There has never been a time when so many of the day’s hottest topics have so directly affected the lives of Hispanics in this country,” said host and moderator Jorge Ramos. “And there’s never been a time when a program such as ‘Al Punto’ has been more eagerly-awaited by our viewers to get these issues out on the table and get some real answers from the people who actually help shape them.”

But “Al Punto” will delve far beyond just politics. Each week, a roundtable discussion among regular contributors made up of some of television’s most experienced and respected experts and analysts will take on a wide range of cultural issues that affect our viewers’ daily lives. On this program, politicians, writers, journalists, business leaders, and even entertainers are all fair game and welcomed to join the debate and, often, the controversy.
