A new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3905424-1&amp;h=2728666907&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.debt.com%2Fresearch%2Fcredit-card-survey%2F&amp;a=Debt.com+credit+card+survey\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Debt.com credit card survey<\/a>\u00a0shows just over half (51%) of Americans say inflation has forced them to &#8220;carry a larger monthly credit card balance&#8221; than before prices started skyrocketing.<\/p>\n<div id=\"prni_dvprnejpgd68eleft\" dir=\"ltr\" style=\"width: 100%; text-align: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"prnejpgd68eleft\" title=\"A new Debt.com poll shows many rely on credit cards due to price hikes and rising costs from inflation. Two years of a record-high inflationary period and multiple Federal Reserve interest rate hikes have caused Americans to fall further into credit card debt. \" align=\"middle\"\/><\/div>\n<p>Even worse, 55% said &#8220;price increases from inflation made me use my credit cards to make ends meet&#8221; \u2013 and 31% maxed out their credit cards over the past two years &#8220;while inflation and interest rates have increased.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As the Fourth of July holiday approaches, Debt.com chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3905424-1&amp;h=2670330314&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.debt.com%2Fauthor%2Fhdvorkin%2F&amp;a=Howard+Dvorkin%2C+CPA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span class=\"xn-person\">Howard Dvorkin<\/span>, CPA<\/a>\u00a0has suggested Americans declare their independence from their credit cards. Yet he acknowledges the survey shows that&#8217;s currently impossible.\u00a0&#8220;It&#8217;s one thing to identify the enemy, it&#8217;s quite another to conquer it,&#8221; Dvorkin says. &#8220;Our survey also revealed some concerns that will keep us dependent on our plastic.&#8221;\u00a0 Among those concerns:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Over 30% of respondents said they have maxed out their credit cards in the past two years.<\/li>\n<li>The survey asked, &#8220;Do you know what your average credit card APR is?&#8221; More than 1 in 4 (38%) did not.<\/li>\n<li>When asked if they considered various debt solutions \u2013 from credit counseling to debt settlement or credit card balance transfer \u2013 58% hadn&#8217;t.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;You can&#8217;t get out of debt if you don&#8217;t understand what&#8217;s keeping you there,&#8221; Dvorkin said about the cardholders who don&#8217;t even know how much interest they&#8217;re paying every month. &#8220;And you certainly can&#8217;t get out of debt if you don&#8217;t even know <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3905424-1&amp;h=714857313&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.debt.com%2Fcredit-card-debt%2F%23Whats_the_best_way_to_pay_off_credit_card_debt&amp;a=the+options\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">the options<\/a> you have.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dvorkin encourages all Americans with credit card debt to use the Fourth of July &#8220;to celebrate what made this country great, and that includes financial freedom as well.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Debt.com tips to get people started:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Move from a &#8220;spend, spend, spend&#8221; mentality and <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3905424-1&amp;h=1344649432&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.debt.com%2Fnews%2Fways-to-save-money-in-the-new-year%2F&amp;a=start+saving\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">start saving<\/a>. The recommendation is to not use more than 30% of the credit limit.
