The results were eye-opening.<\/p>\n<div id=\"prni_dvprnevidbc97left\" dir=\"ltr\" style=\"width: 100%; text-align: left;\" title=\"A new survey from Debt.com reveals that nearly 4 in 5 adults have made money mistakes they can\u2019t take back. Debt.com asked more than 1,000 Americans about their biggest financial missteps \u2013 the results uncover how regret haunts many.\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"playerFrameVideo\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KMU_xy-ufSo?autoplay=0\" width=\"512\" height=\"288\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"auto\" data-poster=\"http:\/\/\" data-autostart=\"false\"\/><\/div>\n<p>Topping the list of regrets was overspending on credit cards, which was cited by a significant portion of respondents. In fact, 78% of those surveyed admitted to having financial regrets, with one in five pointing to excessive credit card usage as their most remorseful financial decision.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s no surprise that credit card debt is a growing regret,&#8221; says Debt.com president <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=4154889-1&amp;h=105503037&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.debt.com%2Four-story%2F&amp;a=Don+Silvestri\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span class=\"xn-person\">Don Silvestri<\/span><\/a>. &#8220;<span class=\"xn-location\">The United States<\/span> has 1 billion credit cards in circulation \u2013 and only 333 million people. As long as credit card balances keep rising, so will the stress that comes with it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The extent of <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=4154889-1&amp;h=3603353970&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.debt.com%2Fcredit-card-debt%2F&amp;a=credit+card+debt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">credit card debt<\/a> among respondents is equally concerning. More than a quarter (26%) reported carrying a balance ranging from <span class=\"xn-money\">$15,000<\/span> to <span class=\"xn-money\">$30,000<\/span>, while 15% acknowledged owing between <span class=\"xn-money\">$30,000<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-money\">$50,000<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly half of respondents admit that their credit card debt is a constant source of worry and say their credit card debt is &#8220;always on their mind.&#8221; What&#8217;s more, the passage of time seems to amplify this remorse. Over a third (35%) confessed to feeling even worse about their credit card debt now than they did just a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>The survey findings underscore the impact of <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=4154889-1&amp;h=2873524897&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.debt.com%2Ffix-your-credit%2F&amp;a=financial+decisions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">financial decisions<\/a> and highlight the importance of financial literacy to empower people and avoid similar regrets in the future.<\/p>\n<p>The research also found:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>26% of Millennials say they regret accumulating debt on their credit cards.<\/li>\n<li>Not far behind are Gen X and Gen Z with 19% citing the same regret of credit card debt.<\/li>\n<li>Gen X is most likely to &#8220;accept&#8221; and &#8220;ignore&#8221; their credit card debt.\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>When asked &#8220;how does your credit card debt make you feel?&#8221; 67% agreed and strongly agreed with &#8220;acceptance.&#8221; Roughly 3 in 5 Gen X chose the response &#8220;I ignore it.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>24% of Baby Boomers report having <span class=\"xn-money\">$30,000<\/span> to <span class=\"xn-money\">$50,000<\/span> in credit card debt.<\/li>\n<li>One in 5 of Gen Z regret taking on too much in <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=4154889-1&amp;h=3676932903&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.debt.com%2Fstudent-loan-debt%2F&amp;a=student+loan+debt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">student loan debt<\/a> and 11% of Millennials say the same.\u00a0 6% of Gen X and only 2% of Baby Boomers have the same regret.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While Gen X has less regret than the younger generations about taking on student loan debt, they have more of it:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>35% of Gen X say they took out <span class=\"xn-money\">$200,000<\/span> or more in student loans.<\/li>\n<li>30% say they took out between <span class=\"xn-money\">$100,000<\/span> to <span class=\"xn-money\">$200,000<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>More than 30% say they still owe <span class=\"xn-money\">$200,000<\/span> or more.<\/li>\n<li>61% have been paying that debt for 7 to 10 years.<\/li>\n<li>17% report they have been paying it off for between 11 to 15 years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More than 1 in 3 (38%) of Baby Boomers regret not saving for retirement sooner while 25% report having nothing saved for <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=4154889-1&amp;h=2474388985&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.debt.com%2Fretirement%2Fsurprise-retirement-expenses%2F&amp;a=retirement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">retirement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If there&#8217;s any good news here, it&#8217;s this: Regrets aren&#8217;t results,&#8221; Silvestri says. &#8220;Whether it&#8217;s saving for retirement or <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=4154889-1&amp;h=3729977015&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.debt.com%2Fcredit-card-debt%2Fcredit-card-minimum-payment-trap%2F&amp;a=paying+down+credit+cards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">paying down credit cards<\/a>, there are professionals who can help you \u2013starting just with a phone call.
