In 2023, more than 11% of the state&#8217;s population, or about 3,356,000 people, moved from one place in <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> to another. That is both the highest percentage and the highest number of people in a U.S. state who moved within that state, according to data from the U.S. Census analyzed by Texas REALTORS\u00ae in its <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=4312296-1&amp;h=605921444&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.texasrealestate.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2FFALL-2024-US-Residential-Populations.pdf&amp;a=Fall+2024+Texas+Relocation+Report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><i>Fall 2024 Texas Relocation Report<\/i><\/a>. The report updates the previous <i>2024 Texas Relocation Report<\/i>, which relied on statistics from 2022, with newly released 2023 numbers.<\/p>\n<div id=\"prni_dvprnejpgcaf7left\" dir=\"ltr\" style=\"width: 100%; text-align: left;\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"prnejpgcaf7left\" title=\"Texas Association of Realtors logo.\" src=\"https:\/\/mma.prnewswire.com\/media\/1317682\/Texas_Realtors_Logo.jpg\" alt=\"Texas Association of Realtors logo.\" align=\"middle\"\/><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;<span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> is a great place to live,&#8221; said <span class=\"xn-person\">Jef Conn<\/span>, Chairman of Texas REALTORS\u00ae. &#8220;With our wide variety of locations, quality of life, and thriving economy, it&#8217;s not surprising that so many Texans who moved chose to remain in the Lone Star State.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><b>Moves to <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> were steady even while state-to-state moves dipped.<br \/><\/b><span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> has also remained a popular destination for people moving from out of state. While moves overall in the U.S. were down slightly in 2023, moves to <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> held steady at 8.1% of all relocations between states for the second year in a row. Only <span class=\"xn-location\">Florida<\/span> had a higher share of state-to-state moves with 8.4%. <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> was well ahead of third-place <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> (5.6%) and fourth-place <span class=\"xn-location\">North Carolina<\/span> (4.5%).<\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Florida<\/span> traded the most residents with <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span>.<br \/><\/b><span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> was the top state Texans moved to <i>and<\/i> came from. However, a significantly higher number of people moved from <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> to <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span>, yielding a net gain for <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> of more than 55,000 new residents in 2023. This represents the highest net gain from any state. <span class=\"xn-location\">Florida<\/span> had the second highest number of movers exchanged with <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span>, adding a net total of about 13,000 people to the <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> population.
