Namely, if you&#8217;re concerned about your health, don&#8217;t drink alcohol.&#8221; <\/i><\/p>\n<p>The study, organized by the <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=4345492-1&amp;h=2860099768&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.samhsa.gov%2Fsubstance-use%2Fprevention%2Ficcpud&amp;a=Interagency+Coordinating+Committee+on+the+Prevention+of+Underage+Drinking\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Prevention of Underage Drinking<\/a> (ICCPUD), an advisory body convened by the <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=4345492-1&amp;h=2555892452&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.samhsa.gov%2F&amp;a=Substance+Abuse+and+Mental+Health+Services+Administration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration<\/a> (SAMHSA), developed a picture of alcohol harm building off what is already known. The CDC identifies over 50 causes of harm and death that alcohol contributes to, from liver disease to suicide. <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=4345492-1&amp;h=982758250&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.stopalcoholabuse.gov%2Fmedia%2Fpdf%2FReport-on-Alcohol-Intake-and-Health.pdf&amp;a=The+Alcohol+Intake+and+Health+Study%2C\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Alcohol Intake and Health Study,<\/a> in turn, assessed a &#8220;bottom-up&#8221; picture of alcohol risk by looking at how each of those causes contribute to the risk of consumption. Key findings include:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Even low levels of alcohol consumption\u20141 drink per day\u2014bring increased risk of harms, including cirrhosis, certain cancers, and accidental injuries.<\/li>\n<li>Risk of dying from an alcohol-related death is around 1 in 1000 for both men and women who consume more than 7 drinks a week, rising quickly to 1 in 100 for those consuming over 10 drinks a week.<\/li>\n<li>Women bear a disproportionately high risk of alcohol-related cancer.<\/li>\n<li>Even infrequent binge drinking days bring substantial increases in risk of harm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i>&#8220;The study goes far beyond &#8216;health drinking&#8217; questions,&#8221;<\/i>\u00a0stated <span class=\"xn-person\">Carson Benowitz-Fredericks<\/span>, MSPH, Research Director at Alcohol Justice<i>. &#8220;It creates a roadmap for addressing so many harms, across so many contexts, for years to come.
