DAS is a division of DIR. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Friday morning, DIR Director <span class=\"xn-person\">Christine Baker<\/span> and DAS Chief <span class=\"xn-person\">Diane Ravnik<\/span> will officially recognize the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dir.ca.gov\/das\/Apprenticeship-Week\/Events-in-California.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">first of the new apprenticeship programs<\/a> between the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1245 in <span class=\"xn-location\">Sacramento<\/span>. SMUD offers seven new training programs in the occupations of line worker, cable splicer, telecom technician, substation electrician, electrical technician, meter technician and engineer designer to approximately 60 apprentices. The engineer designer occupation training is the first of its kind in <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> for apprenticeship. <\/p>\n<p>The second new program will be recognized <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dir.ca.gov\/das\/Apprenticeship-Week\/Events-in-California.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Friday afternoon with program sponsors Sacramento Employment Training Agency<\/a> (SETA), the California Workforce Association, and AFSCME Local 146. SETA&#8217;s two-year &#8220;Earn While You Learn&#8221; apprenticeship program for new and incumbent employees will allow approximately 25 apprentices to advance through its employment system.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are delighted to welcome these two new program sponsors and their apprentices to the benefits of registered apprenticeship,&#8221; said DAS Chief <span class=\"xn-person\">Diane Ravnik<\/span>. &#8220;These opportunities provide the employers a way to meet their skilled training needs, and their apprentices entry to an established career.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0official certification events are part of what President <span class=\"xn-person\">Barack Obama<\/span> has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/the-press-office\/2015\/10\/30\/presidential-proclamation-national-apprenticeship-week-2015\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">proclaimed<\/a> the first annual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.doleta.gov\/oa\/naw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">National Apprenticeship Week<\/a>, promoting efforts to expand the talent available to U.S. industries and offer workers a chance to earn while learning new skills. <\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dir.ca.gov\/das\/Apprenticeship-Week\/Events-in-California.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">schedule<\/a> is posted online with details on the certification signing events in <span class=\"xn-location\">Sacramento<\/span>, as well as other National Apprenticeship Week events across the state. All events are free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>Governor <span class=\"xn-person\">Jerry Brown<\/span> issued a letter to highlight National Apprenticeship Week and urge all <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> employers and workers to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dir.ca.gov\/das\/Apprenticeship-Week\/Governor-Letter%20(2).pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">explore apprenticeship<\/a> as a way to achieve greater levels of professional success.<\/p>\n<p>The California Apprenticeship Council also issued a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dir.ca.gov\/das\/Apprenticeship-Week\/CAC-Resolution.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">resolution<\/a> urging all <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> apprenticeship sponsors to participate in this week&#8217;s events.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dir.ca.gov\/das\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Division of Apprenticeship Standards<\/a> (DAS) creates opportunities for Californians to gain employable lifetime skills and provides employers with a highly skilled and experienced workforce while strengthening <span class=\"xn-location\">California&#8217;s<\/span> economy. <\/p>\n<p>Employees with work-related questions or complaints may contact DIR&#8217;s Call Center in English or Spanish at 844-LABOR-DIR (844-522-6734).
