DALLAS<\/span>, April 7, 2016<\/span> \/PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE\/ —\u00a0The President and CEO of Gruma, Juan Gonz\u00e1lez Moreno and the President of Southern Methodist University<\/span> (SMU<\/span>) in Dallas<\/span>, Gerald Turner<\/span>, today signed an agreement to create The Mission Foods Texas-Mexico Center<\/b>, whose main objective will be to study, elevate and improve the Mexico<\/span>–Texas<\/span>–United States<\/span> relationship through research, annual conferences and public forums.<\/p>\n

“Through this initiative, we would like to stress our conviction that working together in good faith is the most effective path toward finding solutions to common problems and the best way of creating more and better opportunities for the progress of individuals and companies,” said Juan Gonz\u00e1lez Moreno, President and CEO of Gruma. <\/p>\n

Gruma\/Mission Foods decided to support the creation of this center because it saw a huge opportunity to contribute to improving Texas<\/span>–Mexico<\/span> relations, and it found that throughout the long history of economic, social, political and family relationships between the two regions there had been no academic program dedicated specifically analyzing this important relationship.<\/p>\n

“Today, Gruma-Mission Foods is contributing US$4 million dollars<\/span> to the creation of The Mission Foods Texas-Mexico Center<\/i>, whose fundamental objective is to discuss and improve the strategic relationships between Mexico<\/span>, Texas<\/span> and the United States<\/span>,” the businessman added.<\/p>\n

“We are very proud to be a part of this important initiative,” said Gonz\u00e1lez Moreno to the Secretary of Foreign Relations of Mexico<\/span>, Claudia Ruiz Massieu<\/span>, the President of Southern Methodist University<\/span> in Texas<\/span>, Gerald Turner<\/span>, authorities, academics and students at SMU<\/span>, as well as businesspeople on both sides of the border.<\/p>\n

In addition, through The Mission Foods Texas-Mexico Center<\/i>, students and academics at the Edwin L. Cox School of Business at SMU<\/span> \u2013 whose participation is valuable in economic and business programs in favor of the Texas<\/span>–Mexico<\/span> relationship \u2013 will strengthen their ties with companies on both sides of the border, and will have help in developing and offering innovative research and ideas that add up to the strengthening of bi-national relationships.<\/p>\n

The results of the educational center’s main activities will be made public through specialized and academic publications, reports and white papers, and the research programs will be created in collaboration with Mexican higher education institutions suggested by the Secretary of Foreign Relations, the Secretary of Public Education, the National Board for Science and Technology, and the Consulate General of Mexico<\/span> in Dallas<\/span>.<\/p>\n

It should be remembered that Texas<\/span> was a key piece in the history of Gruma’s international expansion, as it was there that Gruma’s first corn-grinding mill outside of Mexico<\/span> was built at the start of the 1980s, which then led to the creation of Azteca\u00a0Milling, one of its subsidiaries in the United States<\/span>.<\/p>\n
