Without any borders at all, we Latinos are one voice, and what better place than the headquarters of the United Nations to let our voice be heard by the rest of the world.\u00a0 The social entrepreneurial activities of our people depend on each and every one of us, and this summit is the initiative that will bring them to fruition, using as a basis the goals of sustainable development.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Governmental representatives took part in the 2016 Latino Impact Summit, such as Margarita Cede\u00f1o de Fern\u00e1ndez, Vice President of the <span class=\"xn-location\">Dominican Republic<\/span>, who addressed the role of women in politics.\u00a0 In conversation with Ismael Cala, Cede\u00f1o de Fern\u00e1ndez said that the region was facing a pivotal moment and was pleased that <i>machismo<\/i> is retreating from current political processes.<\/p>\n<p>The following acts of recognition were made at the event: the Award for Excellence of Social Development, to Dr. <span class=\"xn-person\">Luis Ubi\u00f1as<\/span>; the Award for the Empowerment of the Latin Woman, to Dra. Ang\u00e9lica Fuentes; and the Award for the New Generation of Social Entrepreneurship, to <span class=\"xn-person\">Carlos Slim Domit<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Also present for the occasion in <span class=\"xn-location\">New York<\/span> were ambassadors, business people, and young entrepreneurs and communicators, in a fraternal and constructive environment.<\/p>\n<p>The 2016 Latino Impact Summit was one of the first events at the United Nations to be held completely in Spanish, with the goal of discussing the region&#8217;s real issues, as well as challenges and opportunities relating to the Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n<p>The summit was led by social entrepreneurs and businessmen, Ismael Cala and Sergio Fern\u00e1ndez de C\u00f3rdova, who preside over the Fundaci\u00f3n Ismael Cala and the PVBLIC Foundation, respectively.
