Since then, rising inflation has led to a 33 percent actual decrease in state alcohol tax revenue. <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> state and local government costs for alcohol-related problems are <span class=\"xn-money\">$13.7 billion<\/span> annually, including healthcare and criminal justice expenses, adding to the state&#8217;s economic woes. <\/p>\n<p><i>&#8220;Year after year thousands of <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> lives are cut short or forever damaged due to alcohol,&#8221; <\/i>said <span class=\"xn-person\">Michael Scippa<\/span>, Alcohol Justice&#8217;s public affairs director. <i>&#8220;The human toll and economic costs are staggering. And each year alcohol taxes are not raised translates into a government subsidy of Big Alcohol.
