The survey was fielded <span class=\"xn-chron\">February 2 through February 16, 2017<\/span>, with 817 responding. <\/p>\n<p>Here are the top ten project types with the expected highest consumer demand: <\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Native\/adapted drought tolerant plants \u2013 82.31% <\/li>\n<li>Native plants \u2013 81.60% <\/li>\n<li>Low-maintenance landscapes \u2013 79.25% <\/li>\n<li>Food\/vegetable gardens (including orchards, vineyards, etc.) \u2013 76.52% <\/li>\n<li>Permeable paving \u2013 76.31% <\/li>\n<li>Reduced lawn area \u2013 72.66% <\/li>\n<li>Fire pits\/fireplaces \u2013 71.51% <\/li>\n<li>Drip\/water-efficient irrigation \u2013 71.05% <\/li>\n<li>Wireless\/internet connectivity \u2013 70.77% <\/li>\n<li>Rainwater\/graywater harvesting \u2013 70.32% <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;The fact that more consumers want outdoor wireless access shows that they want expanded options for remaining connected to their devices,&#8221; said <span class=\"xn-person\">Nancy C. ASLA, executive vice president and CEO of ASLA.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Well-designed residential landscapes provide social interaction, enjoyment of nature, and physical activity, while also reducing water use and stormwater runoff,&#8221; said Somerville. &#8220;Landscape architects are pros at creating sustainable outdoor spaces that reflect their clients&#8217; dreams for relaxation and meaningful activity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The top three most popular outdoor design elements include: fire pits\/fireplaces (71.51 percent), wireless\/internet connectivity (70.77 percent) and lighting (67.83 percent).<\/p>\n<p>The top landscape and garden elements include native plants (81.60 percent), low-maintenance landscapes (79.25 percent) and food\/vegetable gardens (including orchards, vineyards, etc.) (76.52 percent).
