{"id":53900,"date":"2017-06-07T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-06-06T19:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hispanicprwire.com\/lacnic-27-expertos-destacan-crecimiento-del-protocolo-de-internet-ipv6-en-america-latina-y-el-caribe\/"},"modified":"2017-06-07T09:02:15","modified_gmt":"2017-06-07T13:02:15","slug":"lacnic-27-expertos-destacan-crecimiento-del-protocolo-de-internet-ipv6-en-america-latina-y-el-caribe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hispanicprwire.com\/en\/lacnic-27-expertos-destacan-crecimiento-del-protocolo-de-internet-ipv6-en-america-latina-y-el-caribe\/","title":{"rendered":"LACNIC 27: Experts Highlight Growth of Internet IPv6 Protocol in Latin America and the Caribbean"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<style type=\"text\/css\"><![CDATA[\n\/* Style Definitions *\/\nspan.prnews_span\n{\nfont-size:8pt;\nfont-family:\"Arial\";\ncolor:black;\n}\na.prnews_a\n{\ncolor:blue;\n}\nli.prnews_li\n{\nfont-size:8pt;\nfont-family:\"Arial\";\ncolor:black;\n}\np.prnews_p\n{\nfont-size:0.62em;\nfont-family:\"Arial\";\ncolor:black;\nmargin:0in;\n}\n]]><\/style>\n<div class=\"xn-content\">\n<p><span class=\"xn-location\">MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-chron\">June 7, 2017<\/span> \/PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE\/ &#8212; The IPv6 protocol, key to the development and growth of the Internet, has reached considerable levels of deployment and traffic in the region over the past year, as IT leaders concluded at the LACNIC 27 event, which brought together more than 735 participants.<\/p>\n<p>The IPv6 protocol is the key not only to driving development of the Internet of Things (IoT) in the region, but also constitutes a vital tool for connecting with 40% of the Latin Americans who still have no Internet, emphasized LACNIC President, Warder Maia. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>LACNIC 27, the most important meeting of Internet professionals\u00a0 from <span class=\"xn-location\">Latin America<\/span> and the <span class=\"xn-location\">Caribbean<\/span>, was held in Foz de Igua\u00e7\u00fa, <span class=\"xn-location\">Brazil<\/span>, with the support of NIC.br and CGI.br. <\/p>\n<p>Maia emphasized that in 2017, LACNIC is celebrating 15 years of institutional life, and placed special emphasis on the construction of the Regional Internet Register community, which has made possible development of a Web suited to the needs of Latin American and <span class=\"xn-location\">Caribbean<\/span> users.<\/p>\n<p>This year, <span class=\"xn-location\">Latin America<\/span> and the <span class=\"xn-location\">Caribbean<\/span> achieved Internet penetration of 59.6%. \u00a0As per this last figure, the region&#8217;s\u00a0Internet community now stands at 385 million users, incorporating 40 million new ones in the past year. &#8220;It&#8217;s a reason for pride, and at the same time a double challenge, because we have to connect those who are not connected, while keeping on the Web those who are already there,&#8221; said Maia.<\/p>\n<p>During the event, emerging technological trends were addressed, and their impact on the future development of the Internet in the coming decade in the panel, &#8220;The Internet of the future: its evolution in the next 10 years.&#8221; Moderated by <span class=\"xn-person\">Oscar Robles<\/span> (CEO of LACNIC), the panel featured the participation of Adiel Akplogan (ICANN), Christine Hoepers (CGI.br), <span class=\"xn-person\">Flavio Amaral<\/span> (Netflix) and Mat\u00edas Quintanilla (Telef\u00f3nica <span class=\"xn-location\">Argentina<\/span>). <\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, for the first time at a LACNIC gathering, ICANN CEO G\u00f6ran Marby made an appearance, and presented &#8220;ICANN \u2013 after the transition from IANA supervisory functions.&#8221; He recognized the digital community&#8217;s work and stressed the growth of IPv6 in relation to <span class=\"xn-location\">Latin America<\/span> and the <span class=\"xn-location\">Caribbean<\/span>. <\/p>\n<p>Out of the event&#8217;s five days, one of them was dedicated to IPv6 Day, with a panel of success stories where good practices and examples from the region were presented (Telef\u00f3nica Brasil, COPEL, ANTEL de <span class=\"xn-location\">Uruguay<\/span> and Telecentro Argentina).<\/p>\n<p>Another highlight of LACNIC 27 was a presentation by the region&#8217;s first anti-abuse group, an initiative to strengthen the fight against online threats. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, LACNIC&#8217;s inclination towards greater \u00a0participation by women in IT in <span class=\"xn-location\">Latin America<\/span> and the <span class=\"xn-location\">Caribbean<\/span> was reflected in the heavy attendance at the panel on diversity and inclusion.
