The festival, initiated by the University of <span class=\"xn-location\">Guadalajara<\/span> in <span class=\"xn-location\">the United States<\/span>, has consistently managed to bring the best of Spanish and Portuguese spoken films to the heart of <span class=\"xn-location\">Hollywood<\/span>. This year from <span class=\"xn-chron\">November 2nd<\/span> through the 5th, the <span class=\"xn-location\">Guadalajara<\/span> International Film Festival will return to <span class=\"xn-location\">Los Angeles<\/span> with more movies and cultural events than in years past, along with an impressive line-up of VIP guests. The details were announced this morning during a press conference at the Mexican Consulate in <span class=\"xn-location\">Los Angeles<\/span>. Present were Iv\u00e1n Trujillo, Director of the <span class=\"xn-location\">Guadalajara<\/span> International Film Festival, <span class=\"xn-person\">Estrella Araiza<\/span>, Director of FICG in LA, and Ambassador Carlos Eugenio Garc\u00eda de <span class=\"xn-person\">Alba Zepeda<\/span>, General Consul of <span class=\"xn-location\">Mexico<\/span> in <span class=\"xn-location\">Los Angeles<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>At the conference it was announced that 27 films would be screened over the 4 day festival, a record breaking number in comparison to previous years. The majority of these screenings will take place in the TCL Chinese Theaters 6 complex, although films will also be screened at the Mexican General Consulate. A special free screening of the classic Mexican silent film <i><span class=\"xn-location\">Tepeyac<\/span>, <\/i>which was released 100 years ago in 1917, will be held outdoors in Plaza Mexico, where Caf\u00e9 Tacvba&#8217;s revered singer Rub\u00e9n Albarr\u00e1n will perform the score live. Keeping with tradition, homage will be paid to legendary artists and this year actresses <span class=\"xn-person\">Kate del Castillo<\/span> and Mar\u00eda <span class=\"xn-person\">Conchita Alonso<\/span>, as well as director <span class=\"xn-person\">Luis Mandoki<\/span> will be honored. The festival also offers workshops for films that are in their post-production stage, in addition to numerous cultural activities, such as seminars for film students and book presentations. <\/p>\n<p>This year will also mark the exhibition of the short film <i>11th Hour<\/i>, a co-production between <span class=\"xn-location\">Mexico<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Ireland<\/span> from celebrated filmmaker <span class=\"xn-person\">Jim Sheridan<\/span>, featuring <span class=\"xn-person\">Salma Hayek<\/span> in the leading role. The closing gala will feature <i>Ay\u00fadame a pasar la noche<\/i> (Help Me to Spend the Night) from Mexican filmmaker Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00f3n Chavez alongside other Mexican films like <i>Sue\u00f1o en otro idioma (<\/i>I Dream in Another Language<i>)<\/i>, <i>Los a\u00f1os azules<\/i> (The Blue Years), <i>Hermanos<\/i> (Brothers) and <i>Resurrecci\u00f3n (<\/i>Resurrection<i>)<\/i>.
