{"id":58106,"date":"2017-11-03T20:48:00","date_gmt":"2017-11-03T16:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hispanicprwire.com\/english-whitefish-energy-statement-on-first-months-progress\/"},"modified":"2017-11-03T20:50:03","modified_gmt":"2017-11-04T00:50:03","slug":"comunicado-de-whitefish-energy-sobre-los-avances-del-primer-mes-de-labores","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hispanicprwire.com\/en\/comunicado-de-whitefish-energy-sobre-los-avances-del-primer-mes-de-labores\/","title":{"rendered":"Whitefish Energy Statement On First Month&#8217;s Progress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<style type=\"text\/css\"><![CDATA[\n\/* Style Definitions *\/\nspan.prnews_span\n{\nfont-size:8pt;\nfont-family:\"Arial\";\ncolor:black;\n}\na.prnews_a\n{\ncolor:blue;\n}\nli.prnews_li\n{\nfont-size:8pt;\nfont-family:\"Arial\";\ncolor:black;\n}\np.prnews_p\n{\nfont-size:0.62em;\nfont-family:\"Arial\";\ncolor:black;\nmargin:0in;\n}\n]]><\/style>\n<div class=\"xn-content\">\n<p><span class=\"xn-location\">SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-chron\">Nov. 3, 2017<\/span> \/PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE\/\u00a0&#8212; Whitefish Energy today issued the following statement:<\/p>\n<p>Nov.\u00a02\u00a0marked the one\u00a0month anniversary of Whitefish Energy&#8217;s work to\u00a0restore power in\u00a0Puerto Rico.\u00a0After\u00a0Hurricane Maria&#8217;s\u00a0category\u00a0five\u00a0winds left the island without a functioning electrical grid,\u00a0Whitefish Energy\u00a0was\u00a0tasked\u00a0with rapidly mobilizing resources to the island to begin\u00a0the\u00a0repair \u2014\u00a0starting with\u00a0the system&#8217;s &#8220;backbone,&#8221; the\u00a0transmission lines and towers, many of which were located\u00a0in the mountains\u00a0of\u00a0Puerto Rico&#8217;s rugged interior.\u00a0Whitefish was also\u00a0tasked\u00a0with mobilizing workers to help repair the\u00a0distribution\u00a0system that would begin the process of restoring\u00a0service\u00a0to\u00a0homes, buildings and other\u00a0end-users as critical transmission assets\u00a0were brought\u00a0online. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Whitefish Energy&#8217;s efforts have included\u00a0clearing access roads, clearing\u00a0rights-of-way, excavation,\u00a0and helicopter airlifts of manpower and equipment\u00a0to enable\u00a0access\u00a0to\u00a0the towers and transmission lines\u00a0needing repair.\u00a0This represented a large\u00a0mobilization\u00a0and\u00a0utilization of\u00a0civil clearing\u00a0and\u00a0construction\u00a0assets\u00a0before the work\u00a0directly\u00a0on the transmission lines\u00a0was possible.\u00a0Once access to rights-of-way and helicopter landing zones were established, work on\u00a0lines\u00a0was able to begin.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since Whitefish Energy&#8217;s work began on Oct.\u00a02, the company has\u00a0brought 350 linemen to the island to work\u00a0on\u00a0the restoration project, along with<b><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>more than\u00a0600 pieces\u00a0and\u00a05\u00a0million pounds\u00a0of equipment, including power line equipment, cranes and excavators, as well as five helicopters. \u00a0The team&#8217;s accomplishments include:<\/p>\n<p><u>Electrical <\/u><\/p>\n<p>Restoration of transmission lines and towers, including:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>More than 10 miles from Cambalache transmission center to Manati (line 50100).\n<\/li>\n<li>More than 20 miles from Manati to Bayamon transmission center (line 50200).\n<\/li>\n<li>Six towers replaced and 58 towers repaired with helicopter airlift and heavy equipment.\n<\/li>\n<li>Work continues on a historically abandoned line in the south-central part of the island. More than 20 towers are being dismantled and repurposed to replace damaged or destroyed towers on other parts of the island.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Distribution<\/u><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Line 3000 &#8211; Completed a critical 38kv distribution line from <span class=\"xn-location\">San Juan<\/span> to Caguas and are continuing the section from Caguas to Juntos.\n<\/li>\n<li>Nearly complete with the distribution lines in this neighborhood and surrounding areas of <span class=\"xn-location\">San Juan<\/span>. Whitefish is expected to have the area ready for PREPA to energize in the coming days.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Access \/ Civil<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Under normal circumstances, rights-of-way would be routinely cleared to provide access to transmission infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Budgetary constraints have curtailed rights-of-way maintenance since 1996, meaning that in some areas, the right-of-way may be indistinguishable from the surrounding forest. <\/p>\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>A half-mile by 16-foot wide path of 10-foot trees near the Cambalache transmission center was cleared by hand and small equipment while heavier equipment was in transit. A half-mile by 16-foot wide path of 30-foot trees and a one-mile by 10-foot stretch of 20-foot trees had to be cleared in two sections along line 50100 east of Manati.\n<\/li>\n<li>Three additional rights-of-way west of Manati were cleared that totaled nearly two miles of overgrown heavy bush, vegetation and 15-foot trees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Impact to Date<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Whitefish repairs have resulted in the restoration of power to areas surrounding <span class=\"xn-location\">San Juan<\/span> for more than 500,000 people, including hospitals, homes, businesses and industrial centers\u2014all critical to the island&#8217;s recovery.<\/p>\n<p><u>Current Work<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Crews are completing assigned work on 230 kV transmission lines 50900 and 51000, which run from south to north over the central mountains. These areas involve high elevation, difficult terrain and limited access.
