To date, they&#8217;ve raised over <span class=\"xn-money\">$39,623<\/span> which will go towards helping rebuild areas devastated by natural disasters in the last few months.<\/p>\n<div id=\"prni_dvprnejpgfc48left\" style=\"WIDTH: 100%; TEXT-ALIGN: left\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"prnejpgfc48left\" title=\" \" border=\"0\" alt=\" \" align=\"middle\" src=\"http:\/\/mma.prnewswire.com\/media\/598908\/Ramos_with_CETYS_students_to_help_Mexicos_earthquake_victims.jpg\"\/><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;While in <span class=\"xn-location\">Mexicali<\/span>, I met with CETYS students who are working to make their school one of the top 10 universities in the world. Inspired by their tenacity, I issued a challenge to raise <span class=\"xn-money\">$25,000<\/span> for the victims of <span class=\"xn-location\">Mexico&#8217;s<\/span> earthquake,&#8221; said <span class=\"xn-person\">Jorge Ramos<\/span>, last September, during his visit to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cetys.mx\/en\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">CETYS University<\/a>&#8216;s 56th anniversary.\u00a0 &#8220;These students not only stepped up to the plate to deliver much needed resources, but the University also backed them 100%.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Fernando Le\u00f3n Garc\u00eda, President of CETYS University declared, &#8220;We&#8217;re proud to say that we have clearly surpassed our goal. The work shows our commitment at CETYS of focusing both on the academic and social development of our students. By forming upstanding people who are very committed to their communities, we&#8217;re educating true agents of change.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Fundraising activities were led by student groups, including the University Network for Disaster Prevention and Care (UNIRED for its Spanish acronym), a non-governmental association, located in <span class=\"xn-location\">Mexico City<\/span>, whose Northwestern chapter is coordinated by CETYS; the leadership group FORTES, and the Alumni Society. These groups organized social and cultural events, fundraisers, raffles, and sales throughout the three CETYS campuses. <\/p>\n<p>Through different initiatives, CETYS University seeks to promote its students&#8217; sensitivity to their environment, raise their awareness about their responsibility within the society, and reaffirm their commitment as future agents of change. <\/p>\n<p><span class=\"xn-person\">Jorge Ramos&#8217;s<\/span> challenge started with a personal donation by the renowned journalist himself of <span class=\"xn-money\">$10,000<\/span>. To this day, CETYS and the community has collected over <span class=\"xn-money\">$29,000<\/span> more for a total of over <span class=\"xn-money\">$39,000<\/span>.
