Yamila has been fighting cancer since she was 3 years old, when she was found to suffer from acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), a type of blood cancer. Yamila, who is from <span class=\"xn-location\">Puerto Rico<\/span>, went into remission after initially undergoing treatment at a local hospital, but the cancer came back. This time, her doctors recommended a bone marrow transplant and referred Yamila&#8217;s family to\u00a0St. Jude Children&#8217;s Research Hospital in <span class=\"xn-location\">Memphis, Tennessee<\/span> for Yamila&#8217;s continuing treatment and care. <\/p>\n<p>St. Jude <i>Promesa y Esperanza<\/i> radio events began in 1997, with just three participating radio stations.
