Mellon Auditorium, range in age from 10 to 18. They were selected first from a field of more than 29,000 middle level and high school youth volunteers nationwide, and then from 102 State Honorees, based on their initiative, effort, impact, and the personal growth demonstrated in the course of their volunteer service. The National Honorees each received <span class=\"xn-money\">$5,000<\/span> personal awards, engraved gold medallions, crystal trophies for their schools, and <span class=\"xn-money\">$5,000<\/span> grants from The Prudential Foundation for charities of their choice.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s ceremony was part of a four-day celebration that brought each state&#8217;s top two youth volunteers of 2018 to <span class=\"xn-location\">Washington, D.C.<\/span>, for sightseeing and special recognition events. These State Honorees \u2013 one middle level and one high school student from each state and the <span class=\"xn-location\">District of Columbia<\/span> \u2013 were personally congratulated by Olympic gold medalist and World Cup champion <span class=\"xn-person\">Lindsey Vonn<\/span> last night at a gala dinner reception at the Smithsonian&#8217;s National Museum of Natural History. Each State Honoree received a <span class=\"xn-money\">$1,000<\/span> award.<\/p>\n<p>These are the 10 National Honorees named today:<\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"xn-person\">Tabitha Bell<\/span>, 18, of <span class=\"xn-location\">Sandy, Utah<\/span><\/b>, a senior at Waterford School, has raised more than <span class=\"xn-money\">$115,000<\/span> through her nonprofit, &#8220;Pawsitive Pawsibilities,&#8221; to provide nine service dogs to people who otherwise could not afford one.<\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"xn-person\">Rosie Colucci<\/span>, 13, of <span class=\"xn-location\">Palatine, Ill<\/span><\/b>., an eighth-grader at Plum Grove Junior High School, has collected more than 60,000 toys, books, stuffed animals, games and other donations for hospitalized kids, and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to help fund research for a cure for childhood cancer.<\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"xn-person\">Grayson Phillips<\/span>, 18, of <span class=\"xn-location\">Gardendale, Ala<\/span><\/b>., a senior at Essential Church School, organized a fishing tournament and a fundraising dinner\/auction, and collected donations at outdoor expos, to provide seven children and young adults with disabilities with all-terrain power wheelchairs that allow them to safely navigate the great outdoors with their peers.<\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"xn-person\">Michelle Qin<\/span>, 17, of <span class=\"xn-location\">Santa Barbara, Calif<\/span><\/b>., a junior at Dos Pueblos High School, is the founder and CEO of a nonprofit organization comprised of more than 100 students in <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">New Jersey<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">British Columbia<\/span> who work to empower girls and women around the world, focused on education, poverty and health.<\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"xn-person\">Paloma Rambana<\/span>, 12, of <span class=\"xn-location\">Tallahassee, Fla.<\/span><\/b>, a seventh-grader at Maclay School, lobbied legislators, led rallies, gave speeches, created a website and generated media publicity to help secure <span class=\"xn-money\">$1.25 million<\/span> in state funding for visually impaired children between the ages of 6 and 13.<\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"xn-person\">Hailey Richman<\/span>, 10, of <span class=\"xn-location\">Long Island City, N.Y.<\/span><\/b>, a fifth-grader at Public School 78, has placed more than 10,000 jigsaw puzzles in nursing homes and other senior living facilities over the past three years, and created an online support group for kids around the world who have loved ones suffering from Alzheimer&#8217;s disease.<\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"xn-person\">Madison Strempek<\/span>, 13, of <span class=\"xn-location\">Crofton, Md.<\/span><\/b>, a seventh-grader at Crofton Middle School, wrote and self-published a 46-page book, <i>Everyone Makes Mistakes<\/i>, to reassure and comfort children, like her, who have an incarcerated parent. <\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"xn-person\">Brandon Warren<\/span>, 18, of <span class=\"xn-location\">Indianapolis, Ind.<\/span><\/b>, a senior at Warren Central High School, organized a citywide peace march and community day in <span class=\"xn-location\">Indianapolis<\/span> to stand against youth violence, following the murder of a friend and fellow football player.<\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"xn-person\">William Winslow<\/span>, 12, of <span class=\"xn-location\">Raleigh, N.C<\/span><\/b>., a sixth-grader at Daniels Magnet Middle School, fights childhood hunger in his community by holding food drives to fill backpacks with weekend food for children who otherwise might go hungry, and by helping to build school gardens in neighborhoods where access to fresh food is limited.<\/p>\n<p><b><span class=\"xn-person\">Helena Zimmerman<\/span>, 16, of <span class=\"xn-location\">Purchase, N.Y.<\/span><\/b>, a junior at Rye Country Day School, co-founded a nonprofit organization three years ago that is currently giving more than 3,000 teens in 40 states the opportunity to experience meaningful volunteer work by teaching and tutoring kids in underserved communities. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These honorees exemplify something we&#8217;ve known for a long time \u2013 that young volunteers have the power to bring meaningful change to their communities,&#8221; said <span class=\"xn-person\">John Strangfeld<\/span>, chairman and CEO of Prudential Financial, Inc. &#8220;These students have shown leadership and determination well beyond their years, and it&#8217;s a privilege to celebrate their service.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Through their acts of service, these honorees drive home a powerful lesson for their peers: that one student really can make a difference,&#8221; said\u00a0Daniel P.
