The 2018 <i>Share the Experience<\/i> photo contest is now accepting entries through <span class=\"xn-chron\">December 31<\/span>. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Share the Experience photo contest inspires people to explore the country&#8217;s diverse public lands,&#8221; said <span class=\"xn-person\">Will Shafroth<\/span>, president of the National Park Foundation. &#8220;Once people discover these incredible treasures for themselves, the hope is that they&#8217;ll be moved to also support them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The grand prize for the winning image is <span class=\"xn-money\">$10,000<\/span>, followed by <span class=\"xn-money\">$5,000<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-money\">$3,000<\/span> for second and third place. Winners also receive outdoor gear provided by Celestron and Osprey Packs, hotel packages courtesy of Historic Hotels of America\u00ae, and an annual National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have always been a great fan of America&#8217;s national parks,&#8221; said <span class=\"xn-person\">Manish Mamtani<\/span><b>, <\/b>who took the winning image while visiting <span class=\"xn-location\">Acadia National Park<\/span> with his wife last summer. &#8220;I love the way beauty and wilderness is preserved in the parks. I always feel a close connection to nature in the national parks.\u00a0 My love for night sky is the reason I ventured into Astro-photography. Hiking in the night sky not only fulfills my appetite for adventure, but also makes me appreciate my existence among billions of galaxies, where our planet itself is no more than a tiny dot. Some of the national parks like Death Valley, Big Bend, Natural Bridges, Acadia and Arches provide the darkest night skies.&#8221;\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>A photograph by <span class=\"xn-person\">Kristy Burns<\/span> from <span class=\"xn-location\">Livingston, Texas<\/span>, of Fort Union National Monument took second place.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Third place went to <span class=\"xn-person\">Dorrie Henderson<\/span> of <span class=\"xn-location\">Lafayette, Indiana<\/span>, for her photo of Coconino National Forest.<\/p>\n<p>Prizes are awarded for fan favorites and the following six category winners: <\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>Adventure and Outdoor Recreation\n<\/li>\n<li>Historical and Cultural\n<\/li>\n<li>Scenic, Seasons, and Landscapes\n<\/li>\n<li>Family, Friends, and Fun\n<\/li>\n<li>Wildlife\n<\/li>\n<li>Night Skies <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More than 16,000 photos were submitted to the contest, which ran from <span class=\"xn-chron\">May 4, 2017<\/span>, through <span class=\"xn-chron\">December 31, 2017<\/span>. <\/p>\n<p>The 2018 <i>Share the Experience<\/i> photo contest is hosted by the\u00a0National Park Foundation in partnership with the\u00a0National Park Service, the\u00a0Bureau of Land Management, the\u00a0Bureau of Reclamation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the\u00a0U.S. <span class=\"xn-person\">Forest Service<\/span>, and Recreation.gov. <i>Share the Experience\u00a0<\/i>is the official photo contest of America&#8217;s national parks and federal recreational lands, showcasing the more than 500 million acres of federal lands and drawing entries from across <span class=\"xn-location\">the United States<\/span>.
