International homebuyers in the <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> real estate market added <span class=\"xn-money\">$10.89 billion<\/span> to the <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> economy from <span class=\"xn-chron\">April 2017<\/span> to <span class=\"xn-chron\">March 2018<\/span>, according to the <i>Texas International Homebuyers Report<\/i> released today by the Texas Association of Realtors. <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> ranked third among U.S. states for international home sales volume behind <span class=\"xn-location\">Florida<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> respectively.<\/p>\n<div id=\"prni_dvprnejpgd70bleft\" style=\"TEXT-ALIGN: left; WIDTH: 100%\" dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"prnejpgd70bleft\" title=\"Texas Association of Realtors logo\" style=\"HEIGHT: 42px; WIDTH: 400px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Texas Association of Realtors logo\" align=\"middle\" src=\"https:\/\/mma.prnewswire.com\/media\/175272\/texas_association_of_realtors_logo.jpg\"\/><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;International home sales activity continues to be one of the strongest sectors in <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> real estate, spurring strong growth in the <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> economy,&#8221; said Kaki Lybbert, chairman of the Texas Association of Realtors. &#8220;Despite the slight drop in international homebuyers compared to the previous period, <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> remains an international hub and top destination for people from across the world to live, work and conduct business.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> dropped from second to the third most popular state for international homebuyers, behind <span class=\"xn-location\">Florida<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> and ahead of <span class=\"xn-location\">New York<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Arizona<\/span>. <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> accounted for 9 percent of all homes purchased by international homebuyers in <span class=\"xn-location\">the United States<\/span> from <span class=\"xn-chron\">April 2017<\/span> to <span class=\"xn-chron\">March 2018<\/span>, with 24,012 home sales out of 266,800 nationwide. <\/p>\n<p>Six <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> metropolitan statistical areas (MSA) are in the top 50 MSAs nationwide for immigration, according to the latest Yearbook of Immigration Statistics from the Department of Homeland Security:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>No. 6 \u2013 <span class=\"xn-location\">Houston<\/span> \u2013 <span class=\"xn-location\">Sugar Land<\/span> \u2013 <span class=\"xn-location\">The Woodlands<\/span>\n<\/li>\n<li>No. 8 \u2013 <span class=\"xn-location\">Dallas<\/span> \u2013 <span class=\"xn-location\">Fort Worth<\/span> \u2013 <span class=\"xn-location\">Arlington<\/span>\n<\/li>\n<li>No. 26 \u2013 <span class=\"xn-location\">Austin<\/span> \u2013 <span class=\"xn-location\">Round Rock<\/span> \u2013 <span class=\"xn-location\">San Marcos<\/span>\n<\/li>\n<li>No. 28 \u2013 <span class=\"xn-location\">San Antonio<\/span> \u2013 <span class=\"xn-location\">New Braunfels<\/span>\n<\/li>\n<li>No. 33 \u2013 <span class=\"xn-location\">El Paso<\/span>\n<\/li>\n<li>No. 48 \u2013 <span class=\"xn-location\">McAllen<\/span> \u2013 <span class=\"xn-location\">Edinburg<\/span> \u2013 <span class=\"xn-location\">Mission<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> had the highest volume of homebuyers from <span class=\"xn-location\">Mexico<\/span> of any state from <span class=\"xn-chron\">April 2017<\/span> to <span class=\"xn-chron\">March 2018<\/span>, with 38 percent of Mexican homebuyers who purchased a home in the U.S. choosing <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span>. The Lone Star State was also a top destination for homebuyers from <span class=\"xn-location\">China<\/span> (7 percent), <span class=\"xn-location\">India<\/span> (6 percent), the <span class=\"xn-location\">United Kingdom<\/span> (5 percent) and <span class=\"xn-location\">Canada<\/span> (3 percent).<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> ranked third in the nation for international home sales, behind <span class=\"xn-location\">Florida<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> and above <span class=\"xn-location\">Arizona<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">New York<\/span>. <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> accounted for 10 percent of all homes sold by international home sellers in <span class=\"xn-location\">the United States<\/span> between <span class=\"xn-chron\">April 2017<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-chron\">March 2018<\/span>. <\/p>\n<p>Chairman Lybbert concluded, &#8220;Fueled by the desire to start and run a business, obtain world-class education or purchase investment property, international homebuyers continue to choose <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span>.
