According to the estimates provided by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics&#8217; Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII), <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> had 466,600 nonfatal occupational injuries in 2017, a number stable from the prior year. The data posted includes detailed case and demographic data. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This chart shows nonfatal injuries\/illnesses (in thousands) for all industries 2002\u20132017:<\/p>\n<div id=\"prni_dvprnejpg5e0fleft\" style=\"WIDTH: 100%; TEXT-ALIGN: left\" dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"prnejpg5e0fleft\" title=\"Data Source: DIR, Director's Office of Policy, Research and Legislation\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Data Source: DIR, Director's Office of Policy, Research and Legislation\" align=\"middle\" src=\"https:\/\/mma.prnewswire.com\/media\/788328\/CA_DIR_Graph.jpg\"\/><\/div>\n<p>Of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dir.ca.gov\/dosh\/cfoi\/SOI-2017.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow\">466,600 nonfatal reportable job-related injuries and illnesses<\/a> in 2017, 78% occurred in private industry and 22% in state and local government sectors. Both the statewide all-industry count of &#8220;lost time&#8221; cases (referred to in the survey as &#8220;days away from work, job transfer or restriction&#8221; or DART cases) and the number of &#8220;days away from work&#8221; cases (DAFW) remained steady .<\/p>\n<p>By occupation, DAFW rates were highest in 2017 for cleaning and maintenance workers (311 cases per 10,000 workers), construction (246 cases) and transportation (225 cases). \u00a0<\/p>\n<div id=\"prni_dvprnejpgd5bbleft\" style=\"WIDTH: 100%; TEXT-ALIGN: left\" dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"prnejpgd5bbleft\" title=\" \" border=\"0\" alt=\" \" align=\"middle\" src=\"https:\/\/mma.prnewswire.com\/media\/788329\/CA_DIR_Graph_2.jpg\"\/><\/div>\n<p>Estimates for the California Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses are derived from a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/iif\/oshsum1.htm\" rel=\"nofollow\">statistical sample of employers<\/a> in the state. The SOII program is administered by the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/iif\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">US Bureau of Labor Statistics<\/a> (BLS) in cooperation with participating state agencies.
