Officer Valencia was ready like always to respond and serve the citizens of our community in times of emergency.\u00a0 At approximately <span class=\"xn-chron\">11:30 pm<\/span> Officer Valencia was dispatched to a domestic violence call in the <span class=\"xn-location\">City of Orlando<\/span>, upon arrival, <span class=\"xn-person\">Gary Lindsey<\/span>, a previously convicted felon, opened fire on Officer Valencia.\u00a0 Officer Valencia was struck in the frontal portion of his face; the bullet traveling through his eye into his brain. <\/p>\n<p>A 21-hour standoff with Lindsey ensued, during this time he killed four children hostages before he turned the gun on himself and ended the standoff. <\/p>\n<p>Officer Valencia was rushed to a local hospital, where he underwent intensive brain surgery.<\/p>\n<p>After receiving emergency care at Orlando Regional Medical Center, Officer Valencia was transferred to specialized care at Shepherd Hospital in <span class=\"xn-location\">Atlanta<\/span>, where he underwent his 11th straight surgery. <\/p>\n<p>Recently, however, Officer <span class=\"xn-person\">Kevin Valencia<\/span> returned home to <span class=\"xn-location\">Central Florida<\/span>, still in a coma from the very serious brain injury he sustained in the shooting, <\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, <span class=\"xn-location\">Orlando<\/span> Police Sergeant <span class=\"xn-person\">Eduardo Bernal<\/span> said that Officer Valencia&#8217;s medical condition remains minimally changed.<\/p>\n<p>Dan Newlin Injury Attorneys is a nationally recognized and highly accomplished personal injury law firm, serving the state of <span class=\"xn-location\">Florida<\/span>.
