The U.S. saw a 31% decrease in the number of foreign buyer purchases compared to the last reporting period.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> was particularly popular with buyers from <span class=\"xn-location\">Mexico<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">India<\/span>. Of all homebuyers from <span class=\"xn-location\">Mexico<\/span>, 28% purchased a home in <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span>. The next closest state, <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span>, had 10% of the total homebuyers from <span class=\"xn-location\">Mexico<\/span>. Among buyers from <span class=\"xn-location\">India<\/span>, 13% chose Texas\u2014just behind first-place <span class=\"xn-location\">Florida<\/span>, with 14%.<\/p>\n<p>On the commercial side of real estate, <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> is the third-most popular destination for buyers who work with Realtors, according to the 2019 <i>Commercial Real Estate International Business Trends<\/i> report from the National Association of Realtors. <span class=\"xn-location\">Dallas<\/span> was the fifth-most popular U.S. market for commercial real estate purchased by international buyers with a dollar volume of <span class=\"xn-money\">$2.9 billion<\/span>, and <span class=\"xn-location\">Houston<\/span> was ninth at <span class=\"xn-money\">$2.2 billion<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> is seen as a solid state for investments due to our strong economy, business environment and large metropolitan areas,&#8221; said <span class=\"xn-person\">Tray Bates<\/span>, chairman of Texas Realtors. &#8220;Investors are interested in residential and commercial real estate in <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> where they can deploy their resources to make an attractive return. Specifically, we&#8217;re seeing international investors look to <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> for large-scale investments in subdivisions and master planned communities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Early in 2019, delegates from Texas Realtors traveled to the leading international real estate development conference, <i>Le march\u00e9 international des professionnels de l&#8217;immobilier<\/i>\u00a0(MIPIM), in <span class=\"xn-location\">Cannes, France<\/span> to meet with international real estate investors and showcase <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas&#8217;<\/span> attractive investment climate.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One of the key learnings we brought home from MIPIM was the increasingly diversified interest in both residential and commercial real estate in <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span>,&#8221; said <span class=\"xn-person\">Hanne Sagalowsky<\/span>, a Realtor from <span class=\"xn-location\">Dallas<\/span> and the National Association of Realtors Coordinator to <span class=\"xn-location\">Western Europe<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Israel<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Turkey<\/span>. &#8220;With this increased foreign interest, we want international homebuyers eyeing <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> to know that Realtors can help them navigate common issues such as taxes and currency conversion to successfully complete their real estate transaction.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Bates concluded, &#8220;The world continues to see <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> as a strong environment for international real estate investment opportunities.
