It was a magical time to share HPRA&#8217;s goals of empowering its members through support, resources, and education, and offer guidance and assistance to Latinx students pursuing careers in public relations,&#8221; said 2018-19 HPRA-LA President <span class=\"xn-person\">Stephen Chavez<\/span>, CEO of ChavezPR. &#8220;We recognized three inspiring women making their mark in the world while shining a bright light on the needs and issues of our diverse community.&#8221; \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s Voices of Courage awards honored actress of the hit TV show &#8220;One Day at A Time&#8221; <span class=\"xn-person\">Isabella Gomez<\/span>, the Executive Director of CARECEN, an immigrant rights organization, <span class=\"xn-person\">Martha Arevalo<\/span>, and renowned broadcast journalist at Univision Los Angeles, <span class=\"xn-person\">Cecilia Bogran<\/span>. <\/p>\n<p>Throughout its 35 years as a professional association, HPRA-LA PRemio Awards has raised more than <span class=\"xn-money\">$400,000<\/span> awarding scholarships to deserving Latino college students pursuing a degree in Communications. <\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s scholarship winners included: <span class=\"xn-person\">Melody Waintal<\/span>, a senior at <span class=\"xn-org\">USC<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-person\">Diego Perdomo<\/span>, a senior at <span class=\"xn-org\">USC<\/span>, and <span class=\"xn-person\">Karina Valenzuela<\/span>, a junior at Pepperdine University.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>The fundraiser and scholarships would not be possible without the support of corporate sponsors.
