Wake up your courage.&#8217; <\/p>\n<div id=\"prni_dvprnejpg1c9fleft\" style=\"WIDTH: 100%; TEXT-ALIGN: left\" dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"prnejpg1c9fleft\" title=\" \" border=\"0\" alt=\" \" align=\"middle\" imagelabel=\"General\" src=\"https:\/\/mma.prnewswire.com\/media\/1013683\/ADN_Cuba_Breast_Cancer_Awareness_Event.jpg\"\/><\/div>\n<p>Both male and female independent activists gathered to discuss the issue and express their views on the characteristics of the disease and its treatment in <span class=\"xn-location\">Cuba<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Cancer patient and professor <span class=\"xn-person\">Omara Ruiz Urquiola<\/span>, and independent journalist Iliana Hern\u00e1ndez, were arrested this morning while leaving the Oncology Hospital before heading to the event, activist Oscar Casanellas reported. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I do not find any justification for this. This repressive action is extreme, very extreme,&#8221; Casanellas said via telephone to ADN Cuba. <\/p>\n<p>The women &#8220;were collecting medications for Omara&#8217;s breast cancer,&#8221; at the time that Casanellas lost communication. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I find it shocking, because it is an issue that is not at all political, it is educational about breast cancer. I don&#8217;t find any kind of justification for this that has happened, &#8220;added the former professor of immunology at the University of <span class=\"xn-location\">Havana<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Iliana Hern\u00e1ndez confirmed on her Facebook profile that both were being arrested, on patrol, just outside the oncology with Omara&#8217;s medications. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The last message I received from Omara said, &#8216;they take away.&#8217; I suspect that the political police kidnapped my friends,&#8221; said the scientist, who planned to offer a conference on breast cancer this Friday at <span class=\"xn-chron\">1:00 pm<\/span> as part of the independent activities organized by Cuban civil society outside of the ruling party.<\/p>\n<p>Iliana Hern\u00e1ndez confirmed on her Facebook profile that she and <span class=\"xn-person\">Omara Ruiz Urquiola&#8217;s<\/span> were both arrested by police just outside an oncology medical facility with Urquiola&#8217;s medications in hand.<\/p>\n<p>Sources informed ADN Cuba that the location scheduled for Friday&#8217;s event was sabotaged in the morning hours and the door hindered with iron ropes. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have been preparing for two weeks and I was very excited to give this conference. Tomorrow is the International Day for Breast Cancer Awareness,&#8221; Casanellas said about the Friday conference he had planned.<\/p>\n<p>Artist <span class=\"xn-person\">Luis Manuel Otero Alcantara<\/span>, who also planned to attend the event on breast cancer, reported the presence of a police patrol in front of the place where he was.<\/p>\n<p>Alcantara said that at <span class=\"xn-chron\">4:00 pm<\/span> they would celebrate a day for the first Anniversary of the San Isidro Movement at the Museum of Dissidence in <span class=\"xn-location\">Cuba<\/span>, and the closing of the #LaBanderaEsDeTodos challenge. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I will tell you that under my right as a free Cuban I will go out and take me anywhere! We are connected,&#8221; said the artist. Shortly after <span class=\"xn-person\">Otero Alcantara<\/span> left police forces arrested him. <\/p>\n<p>Activist Marthadela Tamayo and musician <span class=\"xn-person\">Osvaldo Navarro<\/span>, both members of the Citizens Committee for Racial Integration (CIR), &#8220;were kidnapped by police official, <span class=\"xn-person\">Major Alejandro<\/span> at <span class=\"xn-chron\">10:00 am<\/span>,&#8221; according to island based gender-equality activist <span class=\"xn-person\">Nancy Alfaya<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Upon leaving their home, they were driven in a patrol car. We are denouncing this forced disappearance, by the political police. His whereabouts are unknown,&#8221; added Alfaya in a Facebook social network post. <\/p>\n<p>Journalist Boris Gonz\u00e1lez Arenas also reported police harassment against him. &#8220;At <span class=\"xn-chron\">10:30 a.m.<\/span>, I was prevented from leaving my house by a device similar to the one that last <span class=\"xn-chron\">Wednesday, October 9<\/span>, kidnapped me for a day.
