Mrs. Brooks has served as Portfolio Manager within the Investments Branch of the California State Teachers&#8217; Retirement System (CalSTRS), where she manages a global portfolio of limited partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Brooks joined CalSTRS, the second largest pension fund in the nation with assets totaling approximately <span class=\"xn-money\">$246 billion<\/span>, reporting directly to the Chief Investment Officer in the Investments Executive Unit. Mrs.\u00a0Brooks\u00a0established\u00a0one of\u00a0the\u00a0country&#8217;s\u00a0leading\u00a0emerging manager fund portfolios. Her diverse\u00a0set\u00a0of\u00a0experiences added tremendous\u00a0value\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0portfolio, and to the relationships\u00a0with\u00a0the state\u00a0legislature,\u00a0trustees, and beneficiaries which\u00a0CalSTRS\u00a0serves. <\/p>\n<p><span class=\"xn-person\">Christopher Ailman<\/span>, CalSTRS&#8217; Chief Investment Officer, shared: &#8220;While we are sorry to see Solange leave, we are thrilled for NAA. She was bestowed by the National Association of Investment Companies the 2008 Award of Excellence, which is awarded to an individual who has demonstrated personal\u00a0achievement\u00a0in their career, and\u00a0made outstanding contributions through influence and direct actions to\u00a0the promotion and benefit of minority business ownership. New <span class=\"xn-person\">America Alliance<\/span> honored her with the 2012 Pension Leadership Award for Promoting Latino Advancement. Mrs. Brooks has been a long-time supporter of the efforts of the Robert Toigo Foundation by being part of the Advisory Committee and serving as Chair from 2009-2014. <\/p>\n<p>Prior to joining CalSTRS, Mrs. Brooks served on the Corrections Independent Review Panel headed by former <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> Governor <span class=\"xn-person\">George Deukmejian<\/span>. Mrs. Brooks formerly served as Deputy Director of the California\u00a0 Governor&#8217;s Office of Community Relations, and spent nine\u00a0 years in the correctional field, where she carried out various leadership positions \u2013 Chief Deputy Inspector General; Assistant Agency Secretary, Policy and Planning; and Chief Executive Officer for the <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> Commission on Correctional Peace Officer Standards and Training.<\/p>\n<p>She is a United States Air Force veteran and has served as an adjunct professor at <span class=\"xn-org\">Sacramento City College<\/span>. Her undergraduate education is in international business and economics, and she earned a Master in Business Administration from the <span class=\"xn-org\">California State University, Sacramento<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>NAA Board Chair <span class=\"xn-person\">Gerson R.
