This figure is more than the number of out-of-state residents who moved to <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> in 2017 (524,511). The net gain of out-of-state residents in <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> in 2018 increased 78.1% from 57,173 in 2017 to 101,805 residents in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Among U.S. states, the highest number of new Texans relocated from <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> (86,164), <span class=\"xn-location\">Florida<\/span> (37,262), <span class=\"xn-location\">Louisiana<\/span> (29,108), <span class=\"xn-location\">Oklahoma<\/span> (24,590) and <span class=\"xn-location\">New York<\/span> (21,509). The number of people who relocated from <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> to <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> increased by 36.4% compared to 2017. The Lone Star State also welcomed 201,559 new residents from outside <span class=\"xn-location\">the United States<\/span> in 2018. <\/p>\n<p><span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> ranked third in <span class=\"xn-location\">the United States<\/span> for the number of residents moving out of state (462,140) in 2018. The most popular out-of-state relocation destinations for Texans were <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> (37,810), <span class=\"xn-location\">Oklahoma<\/span> (31,551), <span class=\"xn-location\">Colorado<\/span> (26,930), <span class=\"xn-location\">Florida<\/span> (24,197) and <span class=\"xn-location\">Louisiana<\/span> (23,588).<\/p>\n<p>At the metropolitan statistical area (MSA) level, <span class=\"xn-location\">Los Angeles-Long Beach<\/span>&#8211;<span class=\"xn-location\">Anaheim<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">New York<\/span>&#8211;<span class=\"xn-location\">Newark<\/span>&#8211;<span class=\"xn-location\">Jersey City<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Chicago<\/span>&#8211;<span class=\"xn-location\">Naperville<\/span>&#8211;<span class=\"xn-location\">Elgin<\/span> produced the highest volume of residents relocating to <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span>. The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington MSA recorded the highest number of incoming residents from out-of-state (200,966), followed by <span class=\"xn-location\">Houston<\/span>&#8211;<span class=\"xn-location\">The Woodlands<\/span>&#8211;<span class=\"xn-location\">Sugar Land<\/span> (176,110).<\/p>\n<p>At the county level, <span class=\"xn-location\">Harris County<\/span> (<span class=\"xn-location\">Houston<\/span>) led the state with a net gain of 80,572 residents relocating from out of state, but four of the top 10 counties with the highest net gain of out-of-state residents were in <span class=\"xn-location\">North Texas<\/span> (<span class=\"xn-location\">Dallas<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Tarrant<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Collin<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Denton<\/span> counties).
