Constellation Brands is expected to consume 20 million cubic meters of water annually from the Valley of <span class=\"xn-location\">Mexicali<\/span>. This desert region has an over-exploited aquifer that is fed by the Colorado River with serious water shortages and serious drought issues in <span class=\"xn-location\">Tijuana<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Tecate<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Rosarito<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Ensenada<\/span>. <\/p>\n<p>In <span class=\"xn-chron\">February 2020<\/span>, the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=2757548-1&amp;h=670536786&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cndh.org.mx%2Fsites%2Fdefault%2Ffiles%2Fdocumentos%2F2020-02%2FCOM_2020_031.pdf&amp;a=National+Human+Rights+Commission+released+a+report\" rel=\"nofollow\">National Human Rights Commission released a report<\/a>\u00a0that determined that the process of the approval and installation of the Constellation Brands Brewery violates the human right to water, which will lead to the detriment of the population and farmers of the Valley of <span class=\"xn-location\">Mexicali<\/span>. <\/p>\n<p>On <span class=\"xn-chron\">March 9th<\/span> Mexican President, <span class=\"xn-person\">Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador<\/span> suddenly announced a public &#8220;consultation&#8221; vote on <span class=\"xn-chron\">March 21st<\/span> and 22nd where residents of <span class=\"xn-location\">Mexicali<\/span> will decide if the U.S. based alcohol corporation Constellation Brands can continue to produce beer while extracting essential water in <span class=\"xn-location\">Mexicali<\/span>, BC.
