Illnesses started on dates ranging from\u00a0June 19, 2020, to <span class=\"xn-chron\">July 23, 2020<\/span>. Ill people range in age with fifty-four percent of ill people being female. Twenty-nine individuals have been hospitalized, with no identified deaths at this time. Health officials report cases in the following provinces: <span class=\"xn-location\">British Columbia<\/span> (67), <span class=\"xn-location\">Alberta<\/span> (149), <span class=\"xn-location\">Saskatchewan<\/span> (5), <span class=\"xn-location\">Manitoba<\/span> (13), <span class=\"xn-location\">Ontario<\/span> (3), <span class=\"xn-location\">Quebec<\/span> (1) and <span class=\"xn-location\">Prince Edward Island<\/span> (1).<\/p>\n<p>The traceback information collected from these illness clusters identified Thomson International, Inc., of <span class=\"xn-location\">Bakersfield, Calif.<\/span>, as a likely source of red onions. Due to the way onions are grown and harvested, other onion types, such as, white, yellow, or sweet yellow, may also be contaminated.<\/p>\n<p>On <span class=\"xn-chron\">August 1, 2020<\/span>, Thomson International, Inc., voluntarily recalled red, yellow, white, and sweet yellow onions because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.
