The U.S. saw a 16% decline in the number of foreign buyer purchases compared to the last reporting period.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> continues to enjoy strong international real estate sales activity.\u00a0From relocations to commercial or residential, foreign buyers choose <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> because of our resilient economy, job availability, investment opportunities and friendly business climate,&#8221; said <span class=\"xn-person\">Cindi Bulla<\/span>, chairman of Texas Realtors. &#8220;Despite the slight drop in foreign buyers compared to the previous reporting period, <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> remained a top state for international buyers, particularly those coming from <span class=\"xn-location\">Latin America<\/span>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Forty-two percent of <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> buyers came from <span class=\"xn-location\">Latin America<\/span>\/<span class=\"xn-location\">Caribbean<\/span>. <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> was also a top destination for international homebuyers from <span class=\"xn-location\">Mexico<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Brazil<\/span>. Of all homebuyers from <span class=\"xn-location\">Mexico<\/span>, 28% purchased a home in <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span>. The next closest state, <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span>, had 14% of the total homebuyers from <span class=\"xn-location\">Mexico<\/span>. Among buyers from <span class=\"xn-location\">Brazil<\/span>, 12% chose <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span>, tying with <span class=\"xn-location\">Minnesota<\/span> at second place and behind first-place <span class=\"xn-location\">Florida<\/span>, with 49%. <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> accounted for 9.5% of new immigration in <span class=\"xn-location\">the United States<\/span> in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Six <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) were among the top destinations for immigration in the country. Two Texas MSAs were among the top 10, with <span class=\"xn-location\">Houston<\/span>&#8211;<span class=\"xn-location\">The Woodlands<\/span>&#8211;<span class=\"xn-location\">Sugar Land<\/span> as the fifth-most popular U.S. market, followed by <span class=\"xn-location\">Dallas-Fort Worth<\/span>&#8211;<span class=\"xn-location\">Arlington<\/span> at number nine.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> also ranked third in the nation for home sales from international homeowners, behind <span class=\"xn-location\">Florida<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span>. Eight percent of homes sales in <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> were from international homeowners. <\/p>\n<p>On the commercial side of international real estate transactions, <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> was the third-most popular destination for buyers who work with Realtors, according to the 2020 <i>Commercial Real Estate International Business Trends<\/i> report from the National Association of Realtors. <\/p>\n<p>Bulla concluded, &#8220;While the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic combined with residential inventory challenges caused a slowdown from the record highs of 2019, we remain confident in a rapid rebound.
