The annual report examining housing statistics for luxury homes in the <span class=\"xn-location\">Austin<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Dallas-Fort Worth<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Houston<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">San Antonio<\/span> metropolitan areas also showed total sales of million-dollar and higher homes reached <span class=\"xn-money\">$10.3 billion<\/span>, a 23.8% increase from the previous year. That total accounted for 8.8% of all sales dollar volume.<\/p>\n<div id=\"prni_dvprnejpg185aleft\" style=\"WIDTH: 100%; TEXT-ALIGN: left\" dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"prnejpg185aleft\" title=\"Texas Association of Realtors logo.\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Texas Association of Realtors logo.\" align=\"middle\" imagelabel=\"General\" src=\"https:\/\/mma.prnewswire.com\/media\/1317682\/Texas_Realtors_Logo.jpg\"\/><\/div>\n<p><span class=\"xn-person\">Marvin Jolly<\/span>, 2021 chairman of Texas Realtors, commented, &#8220;One reason we&#8217;ve seen strong growth in luxury home sales despite the pandemic is that mortgage rates are so low. Buyers of high-end properties are finding they can buy more for their money, particularly when compared to many real estate markets in <span class=\"xn-location\">New York<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">California<\/span> and other pricier areas.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The median price for luxury homes in <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> for the first 10 months of 2020 was <span class=\"xn-money\">$1,360,000<\/span>, 0.7% less than the previous year. The average price per square foot for luxury homes increased 3.5% to <span class=\"xn-money\">$361<\/span>, which is substantially more than the <span class=\"xn-money\">$139<\/span> average price per square foot for all residential <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> homes.<\/p>\n<p>From January to <span class=\"xn-chron\">October 2020<\/span>, luxury homes in <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> spent an average of 86 days on the market, a decrease of one day from the same time frame in 2019. On average, luxury homes spend more time on the market than lower-priced homes.<\/p>\n<p>Jolly concluded, &#8220;Buyers in the market for homes priced at <span class=\"xn-money\">$1 million<\/span> and above will continue to have a good selection in most areas of <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span>. The features of luxury homes vary considerably from one property to another, though\u2014from luxury condominiums and waterfront properties to homes with large acreage and guest quarters.
