Regents of the <span class=\"xn-org\">University of California<\/span> et al.<\/i>, Case No. 2:20-cv-09555-RGK-E (&#8220;lawsuit&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p><b>What is the Lawsuit About<\/b><b>?<\/b>\u00a0 The women who brought the lawsuit (&#8220;Plaintiffs&#8221;) allege that Dr. Heaps assaulted, abused, and engaged in harassing and offensive behavior towards female patients while he was an obstetrician and gynecologist at <span class=\"xn-org\">UCLA<\/span> medical facilities and that Regents of the <span class=\"xn-org\">University of California<\/span> (&#8220;Regents&#8221;) failed to respond appropriately.\u00a0 Dr. Heaps and Regents (&#8220;Defendants&#8221;) deny Plaintiffs&#8217; allegations.\u00a0 The Court has not decided who is right.<\/p>\n<p><b>Who Is Affected<\/b><b>?\u00a0 <\/b>You are a &#8220;Class Member&#8221; if you are a woman who was seen for treatment by Dr. Heaps at (1) <span class=\"xn-org\">UCLA&#8217;s<\/span> student health center (now Arthur Ashe Student Health and Wellness Center) from <span class=\"xn-chron\">January 1, 1983<\/span> to <span class=\"xn-chron\">June 30, 2010<\/span>; (2) UCLA Medical Center (now Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center) from <span class=\"xn-chron\">January 1, 1986<\/span> to <span class=\"xn-chron\">June 28, 2018<\/span>; or (3) Dr. Heaps&#8217;s medical offices at 100 UCLA Medical Plaza from <span class=\"xn-chron\">February 1, 2014<\/span> to <span class=\"xn-chron\">June 28, 2018<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><b>What Can You Get from the Settlement?<\/b>\u00a0 The <span class=\"xn-money\">$73 million<\/span> Settlement Fund will be used to pay Settlement Class Member claims and any Class Representative service awards approved by the Court.\u00a0 In addition to monetary benefits, Regents will make institutional changes at UCLA.\u00a0 The Settlement Fund will not be reduced to pay attorneys&#8217; fees and costs or Administrative Expenses.<\/p>\n<p><b>How Do You Get a Payment<\/b><b>?<\/b>\u00a0 Settlement Class Members who are pre-identified and receive a Settlement Notice packet with a Claimant ID and women who submit a qualifying Statement of Class Membership will receive a Tier 1 Settlement payment of <span class=\"xn-money\">$2,500<\/span>.\u00a0 Settlement Class Members also have the option to submit a Tier 2 and Tier 3 Claim Form.\u00a0 Depending on the information provided and whether claimants are willing to be interviewed, claimants could be awarded up to <span class=\"xn-money\">$250,000<\/span> (or more in exceptional circumstances).\u00a0 The Statement of Class Membership and Tier 2 and Tier 3 Claim Form are available on the Settlement Website at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3044500-1&amp;h=399179330&amp;u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.uclaheapssettlement.com%2F&amp;a=www.UCLAHeapsSettlement.com\" rel=\"nofollow\">www.UCLAHeapsSettlement.com<\/a>\u00a0or may be requested by phone toll-free at 1-888-921-0726.\u00a0 All Claim Forms must be received online through the Settlement Website or postmarked by mail <b>no later than <span class=\"xn-chron\">June 7, 2021<\/span>.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>What Are Your Options<\/b><b>?<\/b>\u00a0 Class Members who don&#8217;t want Settlement payment(s) and don&#8217;t want to be legally bound by the Settlement, must exclude themselves by <span class=\"xn-chron\">May 6<\/span>, 2021.\u00a0 Class Members who do not request exclusion may object to the Settlement by <span class=\"xn-chron\">May 6<\/span>, 2021.\u00a0 The detailed Settlement Notice provides detailed information regarding how to request exclusion or object.\u00a0 The Court will hold a Fairness Hearing on <span class=\"xn-chron\">July 12, 2021<\/span> at <span class=\"xn-chron\">9:00 a.m.<\/span>, Pacific, to consider whether the Settlement is fair, reasonable, and adequate.\u00a0 Class Members may ask the Court to appear at the Fairness Hearing but don&#8217;t have to do so.<\/p>\n<p><b>How Can You Get\u00a0More Information<\/b><b>?\u00a0 <\/b>This Notice is a summary.\u00a0 Detailed Settlement information is available at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3044500-1&amp;h=399179330&amp;u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.uclaheapssettlement.com%2F&amp;a=www.UCLAHeapsSettlement.com\" rel=\"nofollow\">www.UCLAHeapsSettlement.com<\/a>.\u00a0 You may also contact the Settlement Administrator by phone toll-free at 1-888-921-0726 or by mail at UCLA Heaps Settlement, c\/o JND Legal Administration, P.O.
