Cortez; USMC\u00a0Veteran<\/b>\u00a0<b>Mark \u00a8Oz\u00a8 Geist; USMC Veteran Bill Balleza.\u00a0 <\/b>Each was presented with a flag that flew over the United States Capital and framed certificates.\u00a0 The event was attended by\u00a0dignitaries, local veterans, the Mayor of <span class=\"xn-location\">Brookshire<\/span>, Goya employees and local community members.<\/p>\n<p><b>About the Honorees:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><b>Fallen soldier<\/b>\u00a0USMC Sergeant <b><span class=\"xn-person\">Marty Gonzalez<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/b>Marty is a decorated warrior who served several tours of duty and received two bronze stars and three purple hearts. He played a key role in forming the veterans Court in <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span> to help other veterans recover from PTSD. He was laid to rest with full military honors.\u00a0 His widow <span class=\"xn-person\">Tawnee Gonzalez<\/span> and her daughter attended to accept the award.\u00a0 This was the first Memorial Day without him<b>.<\/b> <\/li>\n<li><b>USMC Veteran\u00a0Mark\u00a8 Oz\u00a8 Geist <\/b>|\u00a0<b>Shadow Warrior.\u00a0<\/b>A US Marine Corps Veteran, who also was a team member of the Annex Security Team that fought courageously during the attack on Benghazi, <span class=\"xn-location\">Libya<\/span> and he is credited with saving 25 people. <\/li>\n<li><b>93-year-old U.S. Army Sergeant Major Veteran Borinqueneer Victor Lopez<\/b>.\u00a0 Lopez was deployed several times during the Korean War and during peacetimes to <span class=\"xn-location\">Vietnam<\/span>. He has earned various awards and citations for his service to our nation.\u00a0 <\/li>\n<li><b>U.S. Army Veteran Corporal <span class=\"xn-person\">Sue Downes<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/b>CPL Downes was deployed to <span class=\"xn-location\">Afghanistan<\/span> and injured when an antitank mine hit her Humvee.\u00a0 She lost both her legs and her best friend in the blast.\u00a0 She is a single mom with 2 children. <\/li>\n<li><b>101-year old WWII U.S. Navy Officer Veteran Stewart Morris Senior.\u00a0 <\/b>A true American Patriot, businessman and philanthropist, Stewart is a founding father of Houston Baptist University.\u00a0 <\/li>\n<li><b>Honorable Commissioner and USMC Veteran Daniel P.
