The factory is expected to annually consume 20 million cubic meters of water (1.4 billion gallons) to make Mexican beer for American consumers. This desert region has an overexploited aquifer fed by the Colorado River with life-threatening water shortages and drought issues already occurring in <span class=\"xn-location\">Tijuana<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Tecate<\/span>, <span class=\"xn-location\">Rosarito<\/span> and <span class=\"xn-location\">Ensenada<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>\n    <u><br \/>\n      <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3251712-1&amp;h=2131518100&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fmexiconewsdaily.com%2Fnews%2Fbaja-governor-bows-to-huge-water-law-protest%2F&amp;a=In+2017+Mexicali+Resiste%27s+advocacy+efforts+halted+legislative+efforts+to+privatize+water+in+Baja+California.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">In 2017 Mexicali Resiste&#8217;s advocacy efforts halted legislative efforts to privatize water in <span class=\"xn-location\">Baja California<\/span>.<\/a><br \/>\n    <\/u> Then, in <span class=\"xn-chron\">February 2020<\/span> the National Human Rights Commission released a report that determined that the process of the approval and installation of the Constellation Brands brewery violated the human right to water, which would lead to the detriment of the population and farmers of the Valley of <span class=\"xn-location\">Mexicali<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020 the Mexican President, <span class=\"xn-person\">Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador<\/span> called for a &#8220;Consultation&#8221; for the people of <span class=\"xn-location\">Mexicali<\/span> to vote to determine the future of Constellation Brands continued operation which resulted in a NO vote, halting the operation. However, the big alcohol company did not give up. It is ironic but it is real, those who want to deprive us are them.&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<p>In 2017 the office of the State Attorney of <span class=\"xn-location\">Baja California<\/span> determined that accusations against activists did not merit criminal proceedings. However, the current Congress of the <span class=\"xn-location\">State of Baja, California<\/span> has suddenly decided to reopen the case file and a court hearing is scheduled for <span class=\"xn-chron\">August 10, 2021<\/span>. This decision rescinds the previous resolution and once again presents accusations against the water rights activists for protesting against corporate corruption and injustice. This comes as no surprise after Fierro was wrongfully accused in 2018 of &#8220;attempted murder&#8221; against police for participating in a protest.
