The campaign, <i>Escuela de Fuerza<\/i>,\u00a0which translates to <i>School of Strength<\/i>, drops at a key moment during the pandemic when many athletes with intellectual disabilities are working out from home to avoid public spaces.\u00a0According to a <i><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3322501-1&amp;h=8114902&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fcatalyst.nejm.org%2Fdoi%2Ffull%2F10.1056%2FCAT.21.0051&amp;a=New+England+Journal+of+Medicine+Catalyst\" rel=\"nofollow\">New England Journal of Medicine Catalyst<\/a> <\/i>study, people with intellectual disabilities are almost six times more likely to die from COVID-19. The series targets Hispanic athletes around <span class=\"xn-location\">the United States<\/span> in their late teens through early thirties, and\u00a0is led by five Special Olympics athletes: Tom\u00e1s Monsiv\u00e1is, <span class=\"xn-person\">Abigail Zamorano<\/span>, and Juli\u00e1n Rodriguez from <span class=\"xn-location\">Texas<\/span>, Belem Chavez from <span class=\"xn-location\">Illinois<\/span>, and Ram\u00f3n Jim\u00e9nez from <span class=\"xn-location\">Nevada<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>To promote health equity and reach a Hispanic audience, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention partnered with Special Olympics to fund <i>Escuela de Fuerza<\/i>. <i>Escuela de Fuerza<\/i> is based off the original and widely popular <i><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3322501-1&amp;h=1187342168&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.specialolympics.org%2Fschool-of-strength&amp;a=School+of+Strength\" rel=\"nofollow\">School of Strength<\/a><\/i> fitness campaign that was launched in <span class=\"xn-chron\">March 2020<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Housed on <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3322501-1&amp;h=2575911147&amp;u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.specialolympics.org%2Fescuela-de-fuerza-espanol&amp;a=www.SpecialOlympics.org\" rel=\"nofollow\">www.SpecialOlympics.org<\/a>, <i>Escuela de Fuerza<\/i> features four workout videos with varying levels of difficulty, accompanied by downloadable toolkits for coaches and caregivers that feature recipes, games, and health tips encouraging athletes with intellectual disabilities to commit to a lifetime of fitness habits. Data collected by Special Olympics reveal that over 60% of Special Olympics athletes are overweight or obese, and one in five lower their blood pressure from high to normal after taking part in Special Olympics fitness programming. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now, more than ever, all athletes, especially those with intellectual disabilities, need to keep their bodies fit and strong in a challenging routine.
