SACRAMENTO, California, July 14, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC), the world’s largest Hispanic Christian organization, representing millions of Evangelicals worldwide, today made the following statement regarding The Bastille Day attack in Nice, France:

“Today’s terrible attack in the southern coast of France reminds us of the dark days in which we live. While yet grieving for the victims of the tragedies in our home country, we now turn our attention to Nice, where we join in mourning the heartbreaking loss of innocent lives.

“We are reminded in the first book of the Bible, Genesis, that in the beginning ‘darkness covered the earth.’ But God spoke and said ‘let there be light’ and immediately it was so.

“In that same spirit, individuals of faith must speak and act accordingly, being a light of support to those grieving and a light of hope to a world who is fearful of the next attack. Darkness has tried to cover the face of the earth once again, but we have the opportunity to shine the light by standing for love not hatred.”

The NHCLC serves as a representative voice for the more than 100 million Hispanic Evangelicals assembled in over 40,000 U.S. churches and hundreds of thousands of additional congregations spread worldwide throughout the Spanish-speaking diaspora. Seeking to reconcile evangelist Billy Graham’s message of salvation with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s march of prophetic activism, the NHCLC emphasizes “7 Directives” of Life, Family, Compassionate Evangelism, Stewardship, Justice, Education and Youth.
