ORRVILLE, Ohio, Sept. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Cafe Bustelo® is once again partnering with the Hispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement (HACE) for its El Cafe del Futuro Scholarship Essay Contest, where eligible students nationwide can apply for a chance to win one of nine $5,000 college scholarships. The inspiration behind the El Cafe del Futuro Scholarship stems from the desire to support the communities that have used Cafe Bustelo coffee as a staple in their homes for decades.

To be eligible for the 2014 El Cafe del Futuro Scholarship Essay Contest, students must be 18 years of age or older and of Latino decent, currently enrolled full-time at a college or university and permanent legal residents of the United States. To enter the contest, students should complete all requirements in the online application on the HACE website and, in 800 words or less, write an essay in English or Spanish responding to the following topic:

Describe how your Latino heritage, family, and the community in which you grew up have impacted your desire and motivation to obtain a college degree. Additionally, describe what you intend to accomplish with your degree and how you will give back to your community.

The essay must be submitted on the contest website along with a letter of recommendation and official proof of current enrollment and registration from the college or university being attended. All essays and recommendation letters will be judged by a qualified panel of judges and assigned points based on the following criteria and point system:

• Connection to theme/subject matter (1 to 45 points)
• Plans for future accomplishments (1 to 20 points)
• Plans to give back to your community (1 to 20 points)
• Quality of writing and clear articulation of thoughts and concepts (1 to 10 points)
• Strength of recommendation letter (1 to 5 points)
