MEXICALI, Mexico, Sept. 19, 2017 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — With a series of regional and international events, CETYS University, ranked among the top universities in Mexico, will celebrate the 56th anniversary of its founding from September 20 to 22 at its three campuses in Mexicali, Tijuana and Ensenada. Higher education leaders and influencers will discuss innovation in education and the construction of bridges between nations through international institutional partnerships.
“Since 1961, CETYS has distinguished itself by a vision of a high-quality global education. We are an institution committed to providing our students the tools they need to become socially responsible global leaders. This year we celebrate another milestone in this journey, as we continue to prepare for the future,” said CETYS president Dr. Fernando León García.
The three-day event will begin on Wednesday, September 20 at Mexicali Campus, with an inauguration ceremony presided over by the academic community, government and business leaders, as well as alumni, which leads to a keynote and question and answer session by the renowned Mexican-American journalist and author, Jorge Ramos.
Ramos will travel to the border city to discuss what it takes to be successful in the United States, and how Mexico has no borders in exporting world-class talented and educated individuals. He will also give his perspective on the current relationship between Mexico and the United States and how, in these changing times, it is even more important to build bridges and understanding.
As a continuation of its Innovation Series which began last year with the International Seminar on Innovation in Higher Education, CETYS will host three panels, one on each campus:
- “Innovation in Global Engagement” to be held in Mexicali on September 20
- “Student Success and Retention Strategies: Practical Advice and Best Practice Recommendations” in Ensenada on September 21
- “Innovation in Accreditation” on September 22 in Tijuana
Also, at the Tijuana Campus, on Friday, September 22, the celebrations will open with a re-accreditation ceremony by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), which in 2012 made CETYS the first university outside of the United States to be accredited by this organization. As part of the accreditation process, institutions have to have evidence of:
- Commitment to Student Learning and Success
- Commitment to Quality and Improvement
- Commitment to Institutional Integrity, Sustainability, and Accountability
This re-accreditation, according to President León-García, “confirms our commitment to quality and continuous improvement, which contributes to the education of globally competitive citizens. CETYS is pleased that we once again meet the stringent requirements of accreditation.”
“Through these events, CETYS University further strengthens its commitment to the academic community and to society, and looks forward to continuing with these international collaborations to drive innovation, and therefore, cultural and economic growth in Mexico and the world,” stated León-García.
