IKORMA presents “Caras” series at Red Dot Fair during Art Basel Miami 2014 December 2-7, 2014
Opening Reception: Tuesday, December 2nd, 6-10 PM
MIAMI, Dec. 1, 2014 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — IKORMA, the Venezuelan painting duo formed by Ignacio “Inaki” Martinez and son, Orlando “Mangan” Martinez, are debuting the painting series “Caras” (Faces) at Red Dot Fair during Art Basel Miami 2014, on December 2-7, 2014. Being Mangan an apprentice to his father, both joined their talent and skill in painting and drawing, creating a fresh work inclined to cubism and modern contemporary art.
Their work was triggered by the need to express. Both father and son are descendants of artists. Mangan has always admired the work of them and was greatly influenced in particular by his father.
Far from presenting a struggle between two minds or two worlds to see who wins, this union has resulted in a work that exceeds the sum of the parts. We can say that in every piece there is intervention of the two, and it is difficult to distinguish who is who not just by the audience but also for the artists, reinforcing the concept of four hand creation.
Inaki studied for 14 years in the workshop of master Miguel Renom, he earned several awards in his 20 years career experience. Furthermore, Mangan has a proven track record in music. Among his achievements is winning a Latin Grammy playing in the band Viniloversus.
The “Caras” (Faces) series features a collection of works in acrylic with a palette of vivid colors. In this collection, IKORMA shows a series of pieces based on the construction and reconstruction of faces based on lines and geometric shapes that seem to come from other worlds.
