Health plans to host series of vaccination events throughout Los Angeles County, individuals vaccinated will receive a $20 grocery gift card, while supplies last
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 25, 2025 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — L.A. Care Health Plan and Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan today announced an expanded offering at their annual vaccine events, taking place in September and October, at their Community Resource Centers. In addition to providing flu vaccines, the events will have school-required vaccinations available – making it easier for families to meet these essential school requirements while helping prevent the spread of contagious diseases.

What’s available this year:
- Flu
- DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis)
- Polio
- Hepatitis B, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
- Varicella
**Vaccines are offered based on availability, California Department of Public Health (CDPH) guidelines, and insurance eligibility.
“Getting vaccinated is one of the simplest yet most impactful actions we can take to protect our families and communities,” said Martha Santana-Chin, CEO of L.A. Care. “By offering convenient, walk-in access to flu, and school-required vaccines, we’re ensuring greater protection and peace of mind for everyone as we head into the flu season.”
Attendees who receive any of these vaccines, offered on a walk-in basis, will receive a $20 grocery gift card, while supplies last.
“We’re proud to have a role in making it easier for students to get critical vaccinations by attending events at Community Resource Centers in their communities,” said Jennifer Schirmer, vice president of Medi-Cal growth and community engagement for Blue Shield Promise. “This is another example of Blue Shield Promise’s commitment to bringing health care directly to the communities where families work, live and go to school.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the 2024–2025 U.S. flu season was rated “high severity” for all age groups, resulting in approximately 610,000 hospitalizations and 26,000 deaths nationwide. At least 216 pediatric deaths were recorded, surpassing the previous high of 207 reported during the 2023–2024 regular (non-pandemic) season. Experts continue to link these outcomes with declining vaccination rates, especially in children.
