ISELIN, N.J., Sept. 26, 2014 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The men and women who own McDonald’s restaurants throughout the New York Tri-State Area are proud to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by recognizing baseball legend Mariano Rivera as part of the McDonald’s “Celebrando Nuestras Leyendas” (Celebrating our Legends) program. Now in its third edition, the program pays tribute to iconic Hispanic figures whose influence has been woven into the fabric of American pop-culture. Rivera’s leadership and dedication on and off the field exemplifies the meaning of a true legend.

McDonald’s local franchisees are proud to highlight one of baseball’s greatest closers and athletes of all time, Rivera, a five-time World Series winner. As a member of the New York Yankees, he leaves an unprecedented record.

“With McDonald’s ‘Celebrando Nuestras Leyendas’, we honor the cultural heritage and diversity of our guests while recognizing the contributions of Hispanics whose influence transcends beyond their own community. Mr. Rivera’s exemplary trajectory on and off the field makes him a legend. We are proud to honor his legacy,” said Tony Scari, franchisee and spokesperson for the New York Metro owners/operators.

As part of McDonald’s “Celebrando Nuestras Leyendas” local McDonald’s owners in the New York Tri-State Area will make a donation to the Refuge of Hope Church, Rivera’s charity of choice. The faith-based organization is committed to revitalizing and supporting the community of New Rochelle through family-focused programs.

“I want to thank the men and women who own McDonald’s restaurants in the New York Tri-State Area for this recognition and for their contribution to the Refuge of Hope Church,” said Mariano Rivera.

The Panamanian pitcher has not only been passionate about his dedication to baseball, he demonstrates the same passion in his commitment towards helping others.  The humbleness and faith that characterizes him have led him to support different humanitarian causes through the Mariano Rivera Foundation and the Refuge of Hope Church.

Starting on September 15 through the end of the month, McDonald’s restaurants in the New York Tri-State Area will have tray liners featuring an original portrait of Mariano Rivera designed by 22-year-old artist, Gianna Paniagua.

“My inspiration for the portrait came from all the New York Yankees games I attended with my dad. Words cannot express the honor of being chosen to participate in this celebration and tribute,” added Ms. Paniagua.
