DALLAS, June 27, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — McDonald’s of Texas announces a new burger – the Lone Star Stack! The new creation includes Texas toast, sweet onion barbeque sauce, two beef patties, grilled onions, Applewood bacon, American and white cheddar cheese, and crinkled pickles.
In March, McDonald’s offered Texans the opportunity to create a burger that’s tasty enough to represent the big state and a chance to win $5,000! After more than 25,170 entries and 206,450 votes, it was narrowed down to five tasty creations. A panel of community influencers, McDonald’s Texas owners and employees selected the winning burger.
Joseph Peña, 25, of Houston, designed the winning burger. “I am so thankful to McDonald’s for giving Texans the chance to create a local burger,” said Peña, who admitted he was surprised by the win.
When asked about the burger, Peña said he can’t wait to see his virtual creation come to life. “I wanted the burger to be as Texas as possible, so Texas toast was a must,” said Peña. From there everything else was really just my personal preference. Turns out the burger I made was almost an exact match to my mom’s burger she cooks at home, so really I owe her all the credit.”
“We wanted to give Texans a burger that truly captures the flavor of our great state. It was also important for us to reach out to our guests and lean on their Texan pride. As you can imagine, most of the creations were spicy, large and, of course, loaded with bacon,” said David Glaser, local McDonald’s Owner. “The McDonald’s Burger Showdown Challenge allowed us to bond with our customers and showcase our high-quality ingredients.”
The Lone Star Stack is in restaurants until August 28, 2016. Markets include: Austin, Beaumont, Bryan College Station, Corpus Christi, Dallas, El Paso, Harlingen, Houston, Laredo, Midland–Odessa, San Antonio and Waco.
