About Kiefer Trio
To hear Kiefer live is to hear him in his element, and to hear that dynamic with his trio creates a whole new atmosphere for anyone lucky enough to witness. Something For Real, Kiefer’s first official live album, features audio captured during an intimate show in Los Angeles back in April of 2023. The show was recorded in secret, per Kiefer’s request– thus capturing a natural electricity between him and his trio, consisting of collaborators Luke Titus and Pera Krstajic. The project includes one brand new song in title track “Something For Real,” along with originals from Kiefer’s catalog and a stirring rendition of Bobby Hutcherson’s “Montara.” This live album was conceived as a project without rules: “three friends playing for each other, for fun. With friends, for friends. Something for real!”
The album follows the release of Kiefer’s triumphant NPR Tiny Desk on May 6th— with support from his trio (Luke Titus, Pera Krstajic), and surprise guest appearances by supremely talented friends Charlie Hunter, Nate Smith, CARRTOONS, and Theo Croker.
Kiefer’s first release with Stones Throw was the 2016 album Happysad. His most recent album was last year’s It’s Ok, B U – a record that saw Kiefer return to his beat-making roots. In addition to his solo work, Kiefer has produced, played, and written for artists including Drake and Anderson .Paak, winning a Grammy for his work with the latter.
Kiefer recently completed two sold out nights with this trio at the famed Blue Note NYC, and will tour Asia this summer. He’ll also accompany Nate Smith and CARRTOONS across the US in May.
About Salami Rose Joe Louis
Salami Rose Joe Louis is a genre-traveler, multi-instrumentalist, female producer and a signee to Flying Lotus’s Brainfeeder label. She produces and records pretty much exclusively on her beloved Roland MV8800, nicknamed “Funfunfun”. Her debut record with Brainfeeder, Zdenka 2080, is a critically acclaimed, conceptual sci-fi epic that earned a nomination for Giles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards Best Album of 2020. Since then, she has toured supporting genre-bending luminaries Flying Lotus, Cinematic Orchestra, Toro y Moi, TuneYards, Clairo, and MNDSGN. Her most recent solo album, Akousmatikous, (2023, Brainfeeder), is a follow up scifi odyssey to her Zdenka 2080, that blends emotional intensity with sonic experimentation. Her storytelling attempts to confront and explore a range of subjects such as climate change, the power of imagery, propaganda, depression, societal greed, isolation, and attempting to break free from societal conditioning. Recent collaborations include a feature on Toro y Moi’s ‘Mahal’, a remix for Hiatus Kaiyote’s Ninja Tune/Brainfeeder release, and the 2024 collab album extravaganza Sarah with Philadelphia legend, Flanafi. Now, Salami Rose Joe Louis presents her latest project: a live EP with her dynamic quartet, capturing the energetic intensity and improvisational magic of their performances together. With her innovative production style and captivating live shows, Salami Rose Joe Louis continues to push the boundaries of electronic music and beyond.
About David Binney Action Trio
Acclaimed as a considerable and highly individual compositional talent, saxophonist David Binney is one of the most prolific jazz musicians on the scene today. Winning praise from critics and colleagues alike, David was recently singled out by Jazz Times as one of a handful of “players who have created an alternative jazz-scene… all of whom are playing adventurous, original music.” His latest project: Action features the outstanding and widely popular drummer and bandleader Louis Cole, and bassist Pera Krstajic.
Known for his performances with such prestigious groups as the big bands of Gil Evans and Maria Schneider, as well as with Jim Hall, Uri Caine, Vinicius Cantuaria, Norah Jones, Bobby Previte, Cecil McBee quintet and countless others. David was also a co-founder of the hard-edged quintet “Lost Tribe” and the open-form collective quartet “Lan Xang.” With these groups and on his own, he has recorded a dozen albums as leader or co-leader.
