Nely Galan, self-made media mogul, real estate executive and women’s empowerment advocate, will join Dr. Yvonne Doll, faculty member in the Doctor of Business Administration (D.B.A.) program at Walden University, to present a free, one-hour webinar, “Top 10 Questions to Consider Before Starting Your Own Business,” on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m. Eastern time. The webinar, sponsored by Walden’s School of Management and The Adelante Movement, a grassroots initiative that empowers Latinas financially and entrepreneurially in the U.S., will provide tips and best practices for starting and growing a business in today’s marketplace.

Galan and Dr. Doll will share their inspirational stories while exploring key considerations of starting and running a business. Participants will learn how to decide whether owning a business fits their lifestyle and passions, determine a market need for their product or service, define their target customers and evaluate the competitive landscape. In addition, the webinar will cover the concept of writing a business plan and identifying sources to help with start-up costs. Galan, a first-generation immigrant, was the first Latina president of the Telemundo television network. She is an Emmy Award-winning producer of more than 600 television episodes in Spanish and English, including the FOX reality series “The Swan.” Galan appeared on NBC’s “The Celebrity Apprentice” with Donald Trump and has presented on “The View” as a guest expert. She is also founder of The Adelante Movement, a grassroots initiative that unites and supports Latinas socially, economically and politically in the U.S.

Dr. Yvonne Doll, a member of the second class that admitted women to West Point, served around the world for 26 years in the U.S. Army as a security officer, operations officer, comptroller, commander and leadership teacher. During this time, she was also a wife, mother and student in bachelor’s and master’s degrees programs. As a professor, she has served as chair and mentor for many doctoral students and their research studies, including one on the characteristics of successful female entrepreneurs. In Walden’s D.B.A. program, she teaches doctoral courses including B2B Marketing, Sustainability and Change Management.
