Heralded worldwide for performing sacred Afro-Cuban songs and dance rooted in West African traditions, Yoruba Andabo is confirmed to perform at the Hayti Heritage Center in Durham, NC on November 4; the Lisner Auditorium at George Washington University in WDC on November 6; S.O.B.s in NYC on November 8; and Symphony Space in NYC on November 9. Though the group has performed in New York previously, most recently to a sold out show at Carnegie Hall in 2012, this will be their first time performing in Washington, DC and Durham. The group will also conduct master classes in Washington, DC on November 5 and on November 7 in Brooklyn, New York.

ABOUT YORUBA ANDABO
Yoruba Andabo is an Afro-Cuban band of 17 singers, percussionists, and dancers who are known for preserving sacred West African music that was bought to Cuba by enslaved Africans in the late 16th century. The ensemble takes its name from two African words loosely translated as “the friends and followers of the Yoruba lands and culture.” Yorubaland covers much of what is known as Nigeria and Benin today.

In addition to performing Yoruba-rooted music, Yoruba Andabo is widely acclaimed as one of the leading rumba groups on the world music scene today. They have performed globally to sold-out audiences of all backgrounds. They were featured musicians on the album La Rumba Soy Yo by El All Stars del la Rumba Cuban, which won a Latin GRAMMY® Award in 2001. The group began on the docks of the port of Havana in 1961.
