Inspired to search solutions to effect significant positive change— entrepreneurs Lucienne Gigante and Carlos Cobián have joined forces to launch Animus and its first summit this Friday, October 2, 2015, at the Caribe Hilton Hotel from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

More than 30 speakers— world-class professionals and leaders— will share their stories, teachings and advice in three main areas: Mindset and Mindfulness, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship.

Even though 46% of the workforce and more than 50% of college students are female, they represent only about 35% of startup business owners, according to the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation study, Overcoming the Gender Gap: Women Entrepreneurs as Economic Drivers.

“The purpose of Animus is to inspire, educate and encourage people to take action to develop as entrepreneurs and reach their highest level of personal and professional growth,” said Carlos Cobián, founder of Cobián Media and producer of Animus.

“Investing in women is a way to boost the economic development of any country,” said Lucienne Gigante, co-producer of the event. “Providing resources, solutions and opportunities is critical to stimulate innovation,” she added, noting that Animus is for every woman or man who wants to make a difference, learn, grow, build alliances, and challenge existing paradigms.

Animus is structured to be a dynamic event featuring various formats—from five minute-talks, 10-minutes storytelling, keynotes and panels. Animus will also feature the startup showcase where five entrepreneurs will pitch their business. Speakers include:

  • Melissa L. Bradley: Director, Sustainable Entrepreneurship & Innovation, Kogod School of Business; Entrepreneurship & Social Innovation Professor at Georgetown University School of Business
  • Michelle Herrera-Mulligan: Editor-in-Chief of Cosmopolitan for Latinas
  • Lucy Crespo: CEO of the Puerto Rico Science, Technology, and Research Trust.
