Anthony became owner of PRFC in June 2015 and has been working closely with the NASL to introduce the team and bring energy to the growing league and global market. With New York’s strong ties to Puerto Rico and the immense popularity of the National Puerto Rican Day Parade, where Anthony has been crowned this year’s Parade King, he felt this was the perfect opportunity to introduce the island’s newest sports franchise.
“Puerto Rico is part of my heritage, and in dedication of my father’s birthplace, it’s an honor to restore professional soccer with PRFC and support youth soccer projects with the Puerto Rico Football Federation,” states Carmelo Anthony. “With the Puerto Rican Day Parade being an iconic institution and America’s largest cultural celebration, we are excited for the team to participate and show our community appreciation.”
