"BLACK AND WHITE LOVE" ONLY BY KANAL D DRAMA

In “Amor en Blanco y Negro,” Birce Akalay plays Aslı Çinar, an idealistic young neurosurgeon, for whom saving lives is her greatest pride. Turkish actor İbrahim Çelikkol plays Ferhat Aslan, a criminal hitman who does dirty work for his uncle Namik, patriarch of the prestigious millionaire Emirham family. After many seemingly destined coincidences, their paths cross in the most unexpected way. Aslı is mistakenly kidnapped and forced to operate on a man that Ferhat had shot. This makes her a witness to his crime and to the criminal actions of Namik, a benefactor of the hospital where she works. Knowing that he has been discovered, Namik orders Ferhat to kill her. Not wanting to do so, Ferhat offers Aslı  two options: die or become his wife.

“It is a pleasure to present the super premiere of stories such as “Amor en Blanco y Negro“. Black and White Love, as it is recognized in English, has been one of the most commented Turkish series on social media in the U.S. and we are excited to bring this title to our Hispanic audience for the first time in their native language,” said Francheska León de la Barra, Marketing Director for Kanal D Drama in the U.S. and LatAm. She added, “We will continue betting on stories such as “Amor en Blanco y Negro,” series that will captivate female audiences with non-traditional but realistic plotlines, which deal with themes such as the precipitous nature of love and happiness through the questioning of failures, traumas, and one’s personal beliefs.”

This successful romantic drama was scripted by Sema Ergenekon and Eylem Canpolat and directed by Yasin Uslu, Emir Khalilzadeh, Altan Dönmez, and Orkun Çatak. The main roles are played by İbrahim Çelikkol and Birce Akalay. The series was produced by D Productions.

QVC and HSN's annual international search to discover entrepreneurs with the next big brand or unique product

Entrepreneurs, founders, and creators are invited to submit products beginning April 28

WEST CHESTER, Pa., April 15, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — QVC® US and HSN®, leaders in building brands through livestream video storytelling across multiple platforms, today announced the third annual edition of The Big Find®, an international product search to discover entrepreneurs with the next big brand or unique product.

QVC and HSN's annual international search to discover entrepreneurs with the next big brand or unique product

From April 28 through June 8, entrepreneurs, creators, and inventors with products in apparel, accessories, beauty, culinary, home décor, home innovations, and/or electronics are invited to complete an online application, which includes a video submission highlighting their product and brand story. Selected candidates will be invited to pitch their products by videoconference in August to a judging panel comprised of QVC and HSN merchandising executives, program hosts, and brand founders from established QVC and HSN brands. Brands awarded “Big Tickets” will continue discussions with the QVC and HSN merchandising teams.

“The Big Find has become our flagship program for product discovery, enabling us to assess thousands of entrepreneurs worldwide and introduce dozens of fresh new brands and innovative products to our customers each year,” said Mary Campbell, Chief Merchandising Officer, Qurate Retail Group, and Chief Commerce Officer, QVC US. “Our multiplatform video commerce experience gives entrepreneurs the unique opportunity to share their personal stories with millions of customers and start turning their businesses into nationally beloved brands. We have been so inspired by the Big Find brands we have launched thus far, and we look forward to finding even more products for our customers to love.”

As part of Qurate Retail Group’s commitment to cultivating and promoting diverse, inclusive environments, QVC and HSN are working to double the representation of underrepresented businesses chosen through The Big Find. In 2020, 64 out of the 102 brands selected through the Big Find search self-identified as a woman and/or minority-owned business.

The Big Find was introduced in 2019, with in-person pitch panels in four cities nationwide. In 2020, the program went virtual and received record-breaking interest, with over 2,400 applications from more than 60 countries. Over the last two years, more than 160 brands were chosen to launch on QVC or HSN through The Big Find, including such brands as Mented Cosmetics (beauty); Sassy Jones (accessories); Modzori (footwear) and Truth & Style (apparel). More than 90 Big Find brands are launching throughout 2021 as a result of the 2020 Big Find product search. Brands like Bellasonic (beauty), Chunk Nibbles (culinary), Poppy + Sage (accessories), and Bare Pits (beauty) have already seen success during their QVC and HSN debuts.

“The QVC and HSN platforms have allowed us to bring our brand to life in a way we never thought possible by being able to speak directly to the customer about how underarm care is just as important as skin care and sharing what makes our products so unique and special,” said Mila Shmurak, Founder and Creator of Bare Pits, HSN Clean Beauty brand and Big Find 2020 winner. “We are so grateful to have our dreams come true by being a part of this experience and to now be a part of the QVC and HSN vendor community. We look forward to growing our business together.”

Hyundai Unveils Segment-Shattering Santa Cruz Sport Adventure Vehicle

Hyundai Motor America. (PRNewsFoto/Hyundai Motor America)

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., April 15, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Hyundai today unveiled its highly anticipated Santa Cruz Sport Adventure Vehicle. The 2022 Santa Cruz breaks new ground within the SUV, Truck and Crossover segments by offering a true Sport Adventure Vehicle unlike anything else in the U.S. market. Santa Cruz boasts bold yet sophisticated design, powerful and efficient powertrain options, a flexible open bed for gear, cutting-edge connectivity and a highly maneuverable all-wheel drive platform that is equally at home in urban and adventure-focused environments. The Santa Cruz Sport Adventure Vehicle begins production in Montgomery, Alabama in June and will be available for sale in summer. The addition of Santa Cruz to HMMA production will add an estimated 1,200 jobs to the U.S. economy. Hyundai is also creating an early reservation system for the U.S.-market Santa Cruz in late April at https://www.hyundaiusa.com/.

Hyundai Motor America. (PRNewsFoto/Hyundai Motor America)

Santa Cruz, with its bold styling, breaks open all new segment territory, both for Hyundai and the industry as a whole. Open-bed flexibility coupled with closed-cabin security meets the changing everyday needs of its adventure-oriented buyers, while powerful and efficient engines and superb maneuverability ensure it is a pleasure to drive in urban or off-road environments. Our customers will wonder just how they managed before owning one,” said Jose Munoz, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor North America.

Why Santa Cruz?
Santa Cruz was developed to be the ultimate Sport Adventure Vehicle, a moniker confirmed in Hyundai’s early consumer research. The research found consumers, often living in urban environments, whose lifestyles include the need to escape to weekend adventures of all kinds. Many of these customers carry various gear and equipment that is better suited to an open bed rather than a typical SUV bodystyle. These buyers want versatile transportation that is equally flexible for urban, adventure, occupational or even home improvement gear. Santa Cruz features a secure, open bed area which includes a lockable tonneau cover, hidden bed storage and versatile bed extension accessories. At the same time, these customers still value the secure utility of a compact SUV, with its comfort, passenger space, fuel efficiency and parking ease. Santa Cruz, with its unique, bold design, created an entirely new segment that meets these specific buyer needs like no vehicle before it.

Everything about Santa Cruz reflects a duality of purpose in its design execution. This all-new category-bending vehicle holds a variety of imagery in balanced juxtaposition:

  • Urban life connectivity with escape to outdoor adventure
  • Work and play flexibility
  • Tough yet alluring demeanor
  • Roominess with maneuverability
  • Open cargo area and secured, lockable storage
  • Towing capability and fuel efficiency

The forward view of Santa Cruz deploys a hidden lighting signature that becomes visible within the grille only when illuminated. The daytime running lamps (DRLs) present a parametric jewel design with high-tech precision detailing. A bold, cascading grille anchors the front view, supported by a skid plate element in the lower front fascia. Voluminous hood and fenders further communicate an imposing first impression.

In profile, Santa Cruz signals a sporty yet capable spirit. The A- and C-pillars present faster forward and rearward rakes than typical open-bed utility vehicles. Large 20-inch alloy wheels with a multi-faceted, triangular design are surrounded by armor-like wheel arches, conveying both wheel-articulation potential and off-road capability. Powerful body side volumes contrast with precise triangular sheer-edged surfaces and tight radius character lines.

From the rear, a horizontal “T” lighting signature adds visual width and distinguishes Santa Cruz from anything on the road. The functional rear open bed area features secure, lockable in-bed storage, integrated corner bumper steps and a lockable tonneau cover, seamlessly integrated with the overall design. The rear tail lamps are embossed with: “Designed in California” as a testament to the passion of Hyundai’s California-based design team. Small, discrete design details such as this can be found throughout the exterior and interior.

Interior Design
The interior of the Santa Cruz expresses a sophisticated and refined appearance. The contrasting rugged yet refined motif matches the boldness of the exterior, boasting a technical ambience that appeals to those who appreciate cutting-edge technologies in their daily lives. It features an enveloping dual-cockpit design that encapsulates each passenger. Design teams focused on ease of ingress and egress and ergonomic comfort on long drives. The premium center stack display features an edgeless infotainment screen appearance, with an impressive 10 inches of visibility. The optional center digital cluster display also measures 10 inches. Under the rear seats is convenient, in-cabin storage. Completing the premium ambience is an available Bose® audio system.

Powerful and Efficient Powertrains
Santa Cruz offers two powerful, flexible and efficient powertrains. The standard powertrain is a 2.5L direct-injected in-line four-cylinder engine with an estimated 190+ horsepower and 180+ lb.-ft. of torque. This engine couples to an eight-speed hydraulic automatic transmission for quick acceleration and superb efficiency. Santa Cruz also offers a 2.5L direct-injected turbocharged engine with an estimated 275+ horsepower and 310+ lb.-ft. of torque linked to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT). This DCT includes steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters for manual shifting control by the driver.

Eight-Speed Automatic Transmission
The eight-speed transmission for the standard 2.5-liter engine provides quick and crisp shifts for an engaging and efficient driving experience. This automatic transmission adds ratio range at both the top and bottom of output speeds allowing for extra thrust off-the-line and a quieter, more fuel-efficient trip on the interstate. A multi-disc and individually controlled hydraulic channel torque converter improves responsiveness by expanding the direct connection band, while a downsized oil pump and double ball bearings minimize frictional losses.

Advanced HTRAC® AWD and Towing Capability
Both 2.5L four-cylinder and 2.5L four-cylinder turbo models offer HTRAC® all-wheel drive capability for complete confidence when pursuing adventures of all kinds or for that extra peace of mind when driving in an unexpected snowfall. The HTRAC AWD system was developed as a multi-mode system, providing an electronic, variable-torque-split clutch with active torque control between the front and rear axles. The Sport setting gives a more agile feel by sending more torque to the rear wheels, for a sporty, dynamic experience. This system has a wide range of torque distribution variability, tuned for conditions such as straight-line acceleration, medium- and high-speed cornering, and hill starts. For those customers who like to tow their weekend gear with them, the 2.5L 4-cylinder is rated at 3,500 lbs. for towing and the 2.5L Turbo AWD model boasts a generous 5,000 lbs. of towing capability.

Compact Dimensions Yield Superb Maneuverability
Santa Cruz makes efficient use of its compact dimensions by offering high utility with excellent maneuverability. Its shorter wheelbase and smaller overall footprint make it a joy to maneuver and park in challenging urban parking, with an exceptional curb-to-curb turning radius of only 20.0 feet.

Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS)
Drivers do not want to compromise when it comes to protecting their passengers, so Hyundai has expanded its available SmartSense technologies on the Santa Cruz. This generous suite of advanced features includes many available driver assistance systems, including:

Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (with Pedestrian, Cyclist and Junction-Turning Detection)
If the preceding vehicle suddenly slows down, or if a forward collision risk is detected, such as a stopped vehicle or a pedestrian, FCA provides a warning. After the warning, if the risk of collision increases, FCA can automatically assist with emergency braking. While driving, if there is a risk of collision with a cyclist ahead or an oncoming vehicle while turning left at an intersection, FCA can automatically assist with emergency braking.

Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA)
When operating the turn signal to change lanes, if there is a risk of collision with a rear side vehicle, BCA provides a warning. After the warning, if the risk of collision increases, BCA automatically controls the vehicle to help avoid a collision. If exiting a parallel parking spot and there is a risk of collision with a rear side vehicle, BCA can automatically assist with emergency braking.

Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA)
If there is a risk of collision with an oncoming vehicle on the left or right side while reversing, RCCA provides a warning. After the warning, if the risk of collision increases, RCCA can automatically assist with emergency braking.

Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)
If the driver leaves a lane without the turn signal on, LKA provides a warning. When a lane departure is detected, LKA can automatically assist with steering to help prevent leaving the lane.

Highway Driving Assist (HDA)
Highway Driving Assist helps to maintain a prescribed distance from the vehicle ahead when driving on a highway and helps center the vehicle in the lane while driving, including curves. HDA also can help maintain vehicle speeds according to posted speed limits on federal interstate highways.

Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM)
When operating the turn signal, BVM displays video of the blind-spot view for the respective side of the vehicle in the cluster display.

Surround View Monitor (SVM)
Surround View Monitor displays a view of the space around the vehicle from above to assist with parking.

Safe Exit Assist (SEA)
When an occupant tries to open a door to exit the vehicle at a stop, if an approaching vehicle from the rear side is detected, SEA can provide a warning. SEA can also help to keep the rear doors closed through operation of the electronic child lock when a vehicle is approaching from the rear.

Smart Cruise Control (SCC)
Smart Cruise Control helps maintain distance from the vehicle ahead and maintain the speed selected by the driver. The vehicle can stop and start automatically when the vehicle ahead is stopped for a short period.

Driver Attention Warning (DAW)
DAW displays the driver’s relative attention level while driving and can provide a warning when signs of driver inattentiveness are detected.

Advanced Infotainment, Connectivity and Convenience
Santa Cruz provides seamless connectivity and technology that helps drivers escape from the daily stress of long commutes, heavy traffic, road hazards and distractions. Drivers also expect to stay connected wherever they go, and the Santa Cruz provides this capability.

Santa Cruz offers a standard eight-inch color touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto® are also available to make staying connected easier than ever. Wireless pairing automatically connects an Android or Apple smartphone, so the driver can keep their phone in a pocket, backpack or purse. Users can lock and unlock the vehicle, activate the panic alert and start the engine. Digital Key is currently compatible only with phones using the Android operating system.

Gen Z Youth Say Climate Change is Adversely Affecting Their Physical and Mental Health in New National Survey by Blue Shield of California

0
Blue Shield of California Next Gen Climate Survey

OAKLAND, Calif., April 15, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — More than eight out of 10 (83 %) Gen Z youth are concerned about the health of the planet according to the NextGen Climate Survey, released today by Blue Shield of California. A majority of respondents also say their environment affects their physical health (69%) and their mental health (75%).

Blue Shield of California Next Gen Climate Survey

The survey was conducted in March to help uncover young people’s top environmental concerns, how climate change impacts their well-being, and their optimism for the future. The poll included 1,200 respondents, aged 14 to 24, from across the U.S.

According to the poll, the top three environmental issues on the minds of young people are: air quality (60%), water pollution (59%) and plastic pollution (56%). More than half (54%) said they are ‘very concerned’ about the planet running out of resources. One in four (26%) said that an environmental event or natural disaster – like a flood, fire or hurricane – has impacted their ability to concentrate in school.

“Climate change is very real and there are a lot of environmental disasters happening,” said 22-year-old Justin Valenzuela, co-president of the Ohlone College Sustainability Club and co-founder of Renegade Feedings in the Bay Area. “Most importantly, I know a lot of marginalized communities around the world are facing different ends of climate change, even though they aren’t the contributors. Providing sustainable health care to all, especially marginalized communities that are affected by climate change, seems like the right step.”

The poll coincides with the nonprofit health plan’s unveiling of its new climate goals – efforts to help improve the health of individuals, families, and communities through better environmental stewardship.

“At Blue Shield of California, we understand the intrinsic relationship between the environment and personal well-being. It is incredible to see that youth have already made the connection to their immediate health,” said Paul Markovich, president and CEO, of Blue Shield of California. “That’s why we are making new sustainability commitments today, to safeguard the health of the next generation and ensure a brighter future for them.”

Blue Shield, which is a CarbonNeutral® certified company, today announced its new NextGen sustainability goals that include:

  • Become carbon negative by 2023
  • Achieve zero waste operations by 2025
  • Quantify the cost of climate change on human health by 2023
  • Adopt and promote climate smart health care by 2025

These commitments are also part of the health plan’s climate action and social justice efforts to achieve health equity throughout California. Research shows climate change disproportionately impacts communities of color and lower incomes.

“Blue Shield is working towards being the most sustainable health plan in California because environmental sustainability is core to our overall health and well-being,” Markovich said. “Young people understand that, and we all have a part to play in making our children’s future healthy.”

Hope for the future and taking responsibility for climate change

Other highlights from Blue Shield of California’s NextGen Climate Survey include:

  • Racism and social justice (62 %), the environment and climate change (47 %), education (47 %), health care (43 %) and gender equality (41 %) are top social issues among Gen Z.
  • 62 % of Gen Z respondents said they felt their generation takes climate change at least somewhat seriously, while only 34 % said they felt their parents’ generation take it as seriously.
  • Respondents say they want both federal (71 %) and state/local (58 %) governments to do more to protect people from negative health effects from climate change.
  • Nearly half (48 %) of Gen Z respondents said they feel better about the future health of the planet under the new administration in the White House, while 19 % said they feel worse.

Blue Shield of California NextGen Climate Survey methodology
Blue Shield of California commissioned Quest Mindshare to field a representative survey online of 1,200 youth nationwide, including an oversample of 300 in California, aged 14-24. The survey was fielded online March 5-12, 2021. To see the full survey report, click here.

Chef and Proprietor David Kinch

NEW YORK, April 14, 2021 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — INTERSECT BY LEXUS – NYC will debut its sixth Restaurant-in-Residence, California’s three MICHELIN star Manresa from Chef and Proprietor David Kinch, on April 30, 2021. Upon welcoming Manresa, INTERSECT will unveil its first-ever outdoor dining design along with a full menu of beverages and light bites from its new first floor concept, The Lounge.

Chef and Proprietor David Kinch

“Manresa represents the highest level of the culinary craft, and we’re thrilled to bring this unparalleled experience to INTERSECT,” says Rachel Espersen, Head of INTERSECT BY LEXUS – NYC. “Following a difficult winter for New Yorkers and restaurants, we’re excited to offer guests a taste of California in NYC with Chef Kinch’s signature Central Coast cuisine and our new outdoor dining experience.”

Manresa

Located in the village of Los Gatos at the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains south of San Francisco, Manresa showcases the inventive cuisine of renowned Chef and Proprietor David Kinch. Inspired by the California Coast—and the kind of ingredient-driven cooking and modern techniques he studied around the world—Kinch’s distinctive culinary perspective has put him at the forefront of contemporary California cuisine. Chef Kinch will bring his California farm-to-table ideology to INTERSECT with a curated menu utilizing the freshest produce and ingredients for a West Coast-inspired dining experience in NYC. His pursuit of exceptional products results in a distinguished dining experience for guests, featuring menus prepared with the highest quality ingredients each evening.

“It’s an exciting and optimistic time, and this partnership affords us the opportunity to collaborate with an exceptional team and share our West Coast Manresa ethos with friends and guests in New York,” says Chef Kinch. “We look forward to flexing our creativity and presenting tasting and à la carte menus reflective of our Manresa fine dining experience at INTERSECT BY LEXUS.”

At INTERSECT BY LEXUS – NYC, guests may choose from both tasting and à la carte menus featuring dishes such as Sea Bream Sashimi with sesame, radish and citrus, Roasted Aged Duck with farm vegetables and fermented carrot juice, Japanese Beef with salt-baked onions, ramps and morels and Salted Butter Ice Cream with poached rhubarb, Meyer lemon and brown butter bits. Manresa’s beverage program at INTERSECT will focus on wines from California’s Santa Cruz Mountains and France’s Burgundy and Champagne regions.

The Lounge

The new ground level destination ushers guests into the space with a luxurious yet approachable atmosphere featuring master-level culinary and cocktail craftsmanship. The lounge experience features a new and unique menu by Executive Chef and Lexus Culinary Master Nickolas Martinez inspired by his international travels as well as INTERSECT’s past restaurants-in-residence and a nod to the Japanese philosophy of omotenashi.

The space, which previously served as a café and gallery, is re-imagined as a reprieve in New York City where guests are welcome to enjoy the new offerings and unwind. Featuring small plates complemented by sake, champagne, and cocktails designed by guest craft cocktail expert Nick Bennett (Porchlight, Cedric’s, Booker and Dax), the welcoming space invites guests to come in, grab a drink or a light bite and relax. Expertly crafted dishes include snack, skewer, and raw options such as A5 Wagyu Beef Temaki with mustard, crispy garlic and soy caramel, Lobster Shiso Tempura with ponzu sauce and Pork and Foie Skewer with mitsuba and garam masala glaze. Bennett’s cocktails range from Ice Ice Baby with rice milk, blanc vermouth, oloroso sherry and shaved ice, Island Time with rum, coconut-oil washed green Chartreuse, pineapple juice and mint and Smoke Show with Japanese whiskey, Vermouth, Amaretto and hickory smoke.

Outdoor Dining

INTERSECT will introduce a modern outdoor dining experience to guests designed by the Rockwell Group. The design concept translates Lexus’ ethos—inspired design, relentless innovation, and exceptional experiences—into a flexible, modular sidewalk seating area featuring a streamlined L-framed dining pavilion. Inside, the pavilion’s four dining areas are clad in a warm Sapele wood paneling with clear dividers inspired by a Lexus grill and feature operable louvers that allow guests to control light, airflow and privacy. The pavilion, along with seven (7) tables covered by umbrellas that run along INTERSECT’s exterior, evoke the restaurant’s interior color palette and serve as an extension of the intimate indoor dining space. Guests dining outdoors will enjoy dishes from Manresa’s à la carte menu.

In accordance with mandated guidelines and protocols – as well as additional health and safety standards by Union Square Hospitality Group and Lexus – INTERSECT will continue to operate with the safety of employees, guests and the surrounding community as a priority.
