WOONSOCKET, R.I., June 25, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — In an ongoing effort to help slow the spread of the virus, CVS Health (NYSE: CVS) today expanded its COVID-19 testing program by announcing 44 additional test sites at select CVS Pharmacy drive-thru locations across Texas. The opening of additional test sites on Friday, June 26 add to the 86 locations previously opened in Texas.

The opening of these new sites reflects the company’s commitment to meeting ongoing demand for testing, as well as expanding testing capacity to respond to a surge in new COVID-19 cases. The nearly 200 additional test sites opening across the country this week are among the more than 1,400 locations CVS Health has opened since May and expand the company’s testing capacity to more than 1.5 million tests per month, subject to availability of supplies and lab capacity.

In addition to the drive-thru sites, CVS Health has partnered with a number of community organizations to open eight rapid-response community testing sites across the country, including sites at Mercy Clinic’s South Fort Worth Clinic and the Ibn Sina Wilcrest Community Clinic in Houston to increase access to testing for uninsured and underserved populations who are at highest risk for COVID-19.

“One of our greatest strengths as a company is our local presence in communities across the country, which enables us to uniquely expand people’s access to safe and effective COVID-19 testing options and respond to a need for increased testing capacity,” said Larry J. Merlo, President and CEO, CVS Health. “We continue to be grateful for the commitment of our frontline colleagues who make these testing sites possible and whose dedication has allowed us to keep our stores open for customers seeking supplies and patients who need care.”

Nearly sixty percent of the company’s 1,400 test sites across the country, including 83% of sites in Texas, are in counties that serve communities with the greatest need for support, as measured by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Social Vulnerability Index. The index tracks a variety of census variables including poverty, lack of access to transportation and crowded housing that may weaken a community’s ability to prepare for and recover from hazardous events like natural disasters and disease outbreaks.

Self-swab tests will be available to individuals meeting CDC criteria, in addition to state and age guidelines. Patients must register in advance at CVS.com to schedule an appointment. Patients will be required to stay in their cars and will be directed to the pharmacy drive-thru window or a location in the parking lot at a few stores, where they will be provided with a test kit and given instructions, and a CVS Pharmacy team member will observe the self-swab process to ensure it is done properly. Tests will be sent to an independent, third-party lab for processing, and the results will be available in approximately three days.

Testing will not take place inside any retail locations, and CVS Pharmacy, HealthHUB and MinuteClinic will continue to serve customers and patients.

CVS Health Expands Testing Capabilities Amid Rise in COVID-19 Cases; Adds 44 Additional New Drive-Thru Test Sites in Texas

Postponed Wedding? Domino’s® Has a Rain Check Registry for That

0
Many couples have had to postpone their weddings due to the circumstances around COVID-19. To help make their days brighter, Domino’s created a Rain Check Registry where friends and family can send them some pizza love through eGift cards.

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, June 25, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Domino’s Pizza, Inc. (NYSE: DPZ) knows that wedding planning is exhausting. Replanning a wedding due to a pandemic is twice as exhausting. Now friends and family can send couples pizza to show their support with Domino’s new Rain Check Registry, on dominosweddingregistry.com

Many couples have had to postpone their weddings due to the circumstances around COVID-19. To help make their days brighter, Domino’s created a Rain Check Registry where friends and family can send them some pizza love through eGift cards.

Domino’s Rain Check Registry is filled with everything the pizza-loving couple will need to get through long days of creating change-the-date cards, negotiating with florists and rescheduling honeymoon plans. Gift card packages include “Virtual Bachelorette Party” and “Vendor Call-A-Thon” among other postponed wedding registry options.

“We created Domino’s Wedding Registry because pizza-loving couples have shared over the years how Domino’s pizza was a part of their big day,” said Kate Trumbull, Domino’s vice president of advertising. “With so many weddings being postponed or scaled back in 2020, we knew those couples might need some extra love from those around them, because everything is better with pizza.”

Couples who choose to create a Rain Check Registry can select from packages including “Small Wedding Now, Big Celebration Later” or even “Bridal Shower, but Make it Virtual,” depending on what twists and turns their wedding plans have taken. After the couple creates their registry, they can share their wish list with family and friends on social media or with a unique URL. All gifts will be delivered to the lucky recipients as Domino’s eGift cards.

Even if a couple isn’t registered, supportive family and friends can still send eGift cards from any Rain Check or Wedding Registry packages at dominosweddingregistry.com.

Pedro Alejandro Vijil’s New Book El Basurero, Reveals The Impassioned Feelings, Thoughts, And Circumstances Of People Who Have Buried Their True Selves For A Long Time

El Basurero Pedro Alejandro Vijil

HOMESTEAD, Florida, June 25, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Pedro said this about his book: “One of the things that, for the author of this book, always seemed unfair to him is that only a few have the privilege of being able to share with their modulated voice their sorrows, joys, and hopes—that is, their own history. But what about those who have also suffered but have no voice to tell it? Using the magic stolen from Mother Nature, the author of this book, just as Prometheus did with the fire of the Olympian gods, has given life and voice to every inanimate element that he found sunk in his silence in the kind garbage can. In this way, each of them can now tell with an inexhaustible voices his own story—stories full of heroism, compassion, sacrifice, and stoicism. Between you, reader friend, and the unscrupulous garbage dump, you will find in it (I assure you) only recreation and the inspiration to say as they say in the garbage can, ‘Everything will pass!’ Everything is diluted in the mirror of time.”

Published by Page Publishing, Pedro Alejandro Vijil’s new book El Basurero will enlighten readers of the profoundness of life as reflected through the immemorial moments of people that exude with chivalry, love, and sacrifice.

Consumers who wish to be mesmerized and illuminated with the different perspectives that can only come from fervent individuals with stories to proclaim can purchase El Basurero in any bookstore, or online at Apple iTunes, Amazon.com, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.

New IHME COVID-19 Model Forecasts Latin American, Caribbean Nations Will See Nearly 388,300 Deaths by October 1

0
IHME_Logo

SEATTLE, June 24, 2020 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington is forecasting nearly 388,300 people will die from COVID-19 in Latin American and Caribbean nations by October 1.

Brazil is expected to exceed 166,000 deaths and Mexico 88,000. Six other nations are each predicted to exceed 10,000: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, and Peru. In contrast, 15 nations, including Paraguay, Uruguay, and Belize are each expected to have fewer than 1,000 deaths.

“Several Latin American countries are facing explosive trajectories, while others are containing infections effectively,” said IHME Director Dr. Christopher Murray. “I cannot overemphasize the imperative of mitigation measures, such as mask wearing and social distancing, especially since South American nations are facing increasing infections due to seasonality of COVID-19, an important factor contributing to the transmission of the virus.”

IHME’s new forecasts model deaths from the virus if countries impose social distancing mandates for six weeks at the point when deaths reach 8 per million people, comparing that to a scenario if no action is taken. The percentage of people wearing masks when leaving their home is also a key consideration.

“These factors are vital in our projections and highlight how many lives can be saved,” Murray said.

He noted that the number of deaths is certain to continue to rise in nations where mandates on mask wearing and social distancing are relaxed. In contrast, Murray stated transmission might be reduced by as much as 50% in communities where individuals are wearing masks when leaving their homes, either voluntarily or by mandate.

The forecasts by nation:
